Amanda Seyfried isn't backing down when it comes to her comments about Charlie Kirk. "I'm not f***ing apologizing for that," Seyfried, 40, told Who What Wear in an interview published on Wednesday, December 10. "I mean, for f***'s sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I'm free to have an opinion, of course." Seyfried faced backlash in September when she called Kirk "hateful" in an Instagram comment days after his death. She wrote the comment under a video discussing the late right-wing political activist's controversial beliefs about abortion, immigration, the LGBTQIA+ community, transgender rights and more. "Thank God for Instagram," the Housemaid star added on Wednesday. "I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized - which is what people do, of course." Stars Who Have Called to Boycott Disney Over Jimmy Kimmel's Suspension Seyfried is referring to her second statement about Kirk. "I don't want to add fuel to a fire. I just want to be able to give clarity to something so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context," she wrote at the time. "Spirited discourse - isn't that what we should be having?" The Long Bright River star continued, "We're forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric, and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk's murder was absolutely disturbing in every way imaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?" While Seyfried has faced criticism for her comment speaking out against Kirk in the wake of his death, other stars, including Kristin Chenoweth, faced backlash for having the opposite reaction to his assassination. His young family," Chenoweth, 57, wrote on social media after Charlie's death, referring to his wife, Erika Kirk, and their two children. "I know where he is now. Heaven. But still." After receiving criticism for her reaction, Chenoweth told NY1's Frank DiLella that she had a "moment of reflection." Celebrities Share Their Abortion Stories: Lily Allen and More "I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks and that hurt me so badly," she said. "I would never. It's no secret that I'm a Christian, that I'm a person of faith. It's also no secret that I am an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and for some, that doesn't go together. But for me, it always has and it always will." She also said the backlash "nearly broke" her. "It was tough on me," Chenoweth told The Hollywood Reporter in November. "But I'm not going to answer any questions about it because I dealt with it. It nearly broke me, and that's all I'm going to say. You probably know my heart, so you probably know."
