Ben Higgins has thoughts about fellow Bachelor Nation alum Madi Prewett's intentions to be a "submissive wife." Higgins, 36, explained that he and wife Jessica Clarke listened to the episode of Prewett's "Stay True" podcast where she made the controversial comment. "It was said on a podcast. It was kind of a quick comment. Jessica and I went back and listened to it. I will give Madi the benefit of the double by saying, like, context ... is never a thing [in] any clickbait or rage bait," Higgins said on his "Almost Famous" podcast. "I'm actually gonna go see Madi this week, and talk with her. I have a lot of questions." According to Higgins, he is set to appear on Prewett's show to discuss his book, Alone in Plain Sight. Madi Prewett Reflects on Alleged Church Gossip About Her: 'Really Hurt' "Jessica and Madi are friends. I've been around Madison, [and] I enjoy my time with her," Higgins said. "I don't really know Grant [Troutt, her husband], so I can't speak to that. I think I'll tell Madi [that] I don't love the quotes out of context when it comes to the life of the sacred and talking about God because it never can really be summed up in one sentence." Prewett, 29, spoke about her three-year marriage during the December 1 episode of her podcast, revealing that she "learned a lot about being a submissive wife." "[It] was a challenge for me," Prewett acknowledged. "Now, it's, like, my favorite thing. I love talking about submission." Prewett and Higgins are both outspoken advocates of their faith, though the former Bachelor wasn't aligned with Prewett's one-sentence brief about being submissive in her marriage. (The two Bachelor alums both became parents this year. Prewett gave birth to daughter Hosanna in January, weeks before Higgins welcomed daughter Winnie with Clarke.) "I think what's biblically true, and what Madi would [likely] agree with ... is God is so much bigger than what we can communicate in one sentence or that we can put our stake in the ground and be, like, 'This is the way it should be and this is the way it is,'" Higgins said. "God is so much bigger, and oftentimes we fall short talking about God and talking about ethics and morality and biblical interpretation." Madi Prewett on How She's Being Less 'Reactive' in Marriage to Grant Troutt He continued, "The God that we love and believe in to be real and active in this world is indescribable. You can't put words to it, and I think that's where people get in trouble if they try to put words to it. When they try to put words to it in a way that is so countercultural, that can come off [as] so offensive to a majority of people." Higgins further revealed that he and Clarke, who got married in 2021, "do not practice a household of submission." "In this Christian household, my wife does not submit to me and my authority, and we work great," Higgins said. "Our household, I would like to believe, represents the heart of Jesus, which is an egalitarian household of equableness and compromise and self-sacrifice." Higgins also noted that it's OK for couples to have different beliefs. "I really don't have any desire to argue with [Madi]," he stated. "It's her dance and her life and her marriage, and if it works for her and her family. Honestly, my response [to her comments] is, 'Great, every couple has their own dance.' Now, do I believe that every couple needs to have the same dance? No."
