Alexandra moved into Thatched House Lodge in 1963, and she continues to reside on the property. _ According to Daily Express, Princess Alexandra has a two-part lease, with her initial agreement being signed in 1971 and another in 1995.
In 1971, Alexandra reportedly paid $4,002 for a 70-year lease, and then she paid $546.94 in annual rent for 35 years until 2006. For her second rental agreement, The Times reported that Alexandra paid $893,780 for her 150-year lease. _ Prince William and Kate Middleton also have a lease for their "forever home," which was recently revealed. "Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales hold a 20-year non-assignable lease with The Crown Estate for Forest Lodge, commencing 5 July 2025," Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Commons' briefing about the couple's move to Forest Lodge states. _ "Previously a 'grace and favor' residence, it was returned to The Crown Estate by HM Queen Elizabeth II in the early 1990s and has since been let on the open market," the briefing continued. _ The Crown Estate made arrangements to negotiate the terms of Prince William and Kate Middleton's lease.
