Almost 15 years after her old reality show ended, Kimora Lee Simmons and her family are back with a new series on E! called Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane. Kevin Winter / Getty Images Unfortunately, the new show, which premiered earlier this month, has already caused a stir online after a "triggering" conversation about weight was aired in the third episode. Olivia Wong / Getty Images In the scene, Kimora's daughter Aoki Lee Simmons, who is 23, gets offended when her sister Ming, 25, tells her that she looks "healthy." Rodin Eckenroth / Getty Images "You look good, you look healthy," Ming says after looking Aoki up and down. Aoki replies, "Fuck you. 'You look healthy?'" E! / Hayu Ming replies, "You look good," with an apparent smirk on her face. E! / Hayu "Healthy means fat in this house, and you're kind of an asshole for that," says Aoki. E! / Hayu Ming, "That's not what I meant." Aoki then mockingly retorts, "You look healthy. You look very healthy." E! / Hayu "I look fat? Tell the truth, what do you mean?" Aoki asks, to which her sister replies, "No, I just meant, like, you look refreshed." E! / Hayu "You're calling me fat. I don't like this," Aoki says before storming off. The pair go on to discuss the clash further in a confessional, along with their mom. Ming explains, "You went to Bali, and you came back looking healthier. Isn't that the whole point of going to Bali?" E! / Hayu However, Aoki insists, "You meant 'healthy' in a weird way," which Ming denies. E! / Hayu "She meant girthy, she meant could last the winter," Aoki suggests, to which Kimora says, "OK well you are not. You cannot last a winter." E! / Hayu When Kimora repeats that her daughter "certainly" can't last a winter, Aoki replies, "Thank you." E! Hayu You can watch the clip for yourself here. As perhaps expected, the conversation went viral for a number of reasons - but first, it's important to add some necessary context. Aoki has been open about struggling with disordered eating in the past, revealing last year that she lost weight after being told that she wasn't "skinny enough" to bag modeling jobs at Paris Fashion Week. Steve Granitz / Getty Images Just a few days ago, Aoki shared a raw post about her health, writing, "she was a good person, she was trying her very best to be what certain people wanted her to be. 💜 (but girls you gotta eat or the brain don't brain! The decisions don't decision! The choices don't choice! I promise you that much)." That said, the conversation between the Simmons sisters sparked a load of backlash online, with several people finding it "triggering" and "problematic." "I wish programmes would stop showing these conversations on TV. It's stupid," one person wrote on X. "This level of insecurity in this young girl is so devastating to watch. This is supposed to be entertaining?" another user said. E! / Hayu "This is absolutely not it. What the actual?! I hate that the awful late 90s/00s diet culture is back with a vengeance," someone said, while another person wrote, "This scene made me not wanna watch it. It actually just made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I actually can't consume media that mfs are upset & being weird about fatness.""Won't waste another second on this show, but they definitely should've deleted this clip. They had no business airing this," one more post read. Meanwhile, loads of people called out Kimora's response to the entire thing. "Seeing the mom reinforce 'don't worry, you wouldn't survive a winter' and the daughter saying 'thank you' in relief is wild," one person said. Stefanie Keenan / Getty Images "That fact that she then goes on to 'compliment' her daughter, telling her she looks like she wouldn't survive winter is awful," another user wrote, while one more comment read, "Unhealthy beauty standards in that home."
