Here's the lowdown. Frederic J. Brown / Getty Images It all started when 33-year-old Josh played "Camera Roll Roulette" with his I Love LA castmate Jordan Firstman for i-D magazine. The publication shared a snippet of this game on their TikTok page, where each actor had to search "club" in their own phone's camera roll. i.D / Via tiktok.com "The only one I have in a club is this picture that's literally me and my mom at a Taylor Swift show," Josh admitted, showing the sweet photo of him and his mom in Taylor's VIP pit at her Eras tour to Jordan, who exclaimed: "That is really cute!" Instagram @mhutch1224 / Via instagram.com For what it's worth, Josh and his mom, Michelle Hutcherson, attended Taylor's New Orleans show in October 2024, and Michelle excitedly posted about the night to her public Instagram page at the time. In a carousel that included a photo of her posing with Taylor's close friends Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, she wrote: "Wow! What a weekend! Spending time with my oldest son in an amazing city, New Orleans, great food, casino, sports (World Series!) and of course TAYLOR SWIFT ERAS TOUR! Thank you Josh for a weekend that I'll NEVER forget!" Instagram @mhutch1224 / Via instagram.com "My mom made me," Josh said of the concert, prompting Jordan to ask: "Are you a Swiftie?" i.D / Via tiktok.com "I'm not a Swiftie," Josh quickly replied, going on to insist: "Very much not. Very much not... No shade, all respect, but definitely not." i.D / Via tiktok.com "A little tiny shade," Jordan argued. "She can handle a little bit of shade." At this point, Josh replied: "A little bit of shade!" i.D / Via tiktok.com Needless to say, this clip immediately triggered Taylor's fans, who were quick to criticize the Hunger Games star for accepting VIP tickets to her show despite not being a fan. One popular tweet reads: "No but I seriously can't get over just how pathetic this is of Josh Hutcherson. Taylor Swift was kind enough to gift him VIP tickets to the eras tour because his mom wanted to go but instead of being grateful to her for her generosity, he shades her. Vile behavior." Emma Mcintyre / Getty Images "'a little bit of shade' for what?? she hosted you and your mom in the VIP tent of her sold out tour??? where swifties gave you friendship bracelets and were nothing but kind?? you don't have to like her music but literally what is the point of this," somebody else wrote alongside a video of Josh accepting friendship bracelets at the show.
Somebody else jibed: "???????? i guess he went to eras tour just for some attention then since he's not getting it from his roles." But once the conversation left the confines of Taylor's fandom, others were stunned to see how much vitriol he was receiving, with one viral rebuttal reading: "Was so scared when I saw Josh hutcherson was 'cancelled' just to find out it's because he said he doesn't like Taylor swift good Lord you people are ridiculous." Kevin Winter / Getty Images "Yall can never make me hate Josh Hutcherson. He's vocal about his political opinions, has 0 scandals EVER, a huge ally to the LGBTQ community, trans community ally, and generally minds his business I couldn't give a flying fuck If he isn't a swiftie my GODDDD go outside!!!" another user tweeted. While one more joked: "you can love someone and still admit when they're wrong. I love josh hutcherson but can acknowledge his flaws (he has none) & can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he's never done anything wrong in his life) & call him out for his actions (which are always correct)" But a Swiftie hit back at this argument by claiming: "They are in the replies saying 'not everyone has to be a Swiftie', and I agree. In fact, I wish more annoying people weren't Swifties. But if Taylor was asked, 'are you a fan of Josh Hutcherson', and her answer was 'no, very much no' you would call her every insult under the sun." Emma Mcintyre / Getty Images All valid points.
