The food influencer - best known by the social media handle @FoodWithBearHands - died from a gunshot wound on November 8 following a standoff with police in Texas, and his manner of death was officially ruled a homicide, Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly on Tuesday, December 9. The sheriff's office told the outlet that police received a call about a "male subject with a knife acting erratically," who was later identified as Duarte. He had reportedly been in town for the Texas Open Fire Meat Up, a barbecue festival held on the day he died. Duarte was staying in a tent outside the Castroville property and had permission to be there from the group renting the home, a female neighbor exclusively told Us at the time. She then offered insight into the food influencer's final moments. The neighbor claimed that the property, which sits on three acres, had a main camera that captured Duarte looking "disheveled" as he made his way to the street, where the unnamed source alleged the incident occurred. Several reports claimed the food influencer allegedly threatened an officer with a knife. "It was a drawn-out incident that happened over several hours," she told Us, calling the events that led to Duarte's death "unfortunate and shocking." Bianca Haseloff, a local realtor, also detailed what she observed while showing a nearby empty lot to a client around the time Duarte was shot. Haseloff told Us that she heard a male scream and what "sounded like two gunshots." The responding deputy reportedly fired two rounds, striking Duarte. He was given medical aid on scene before being transported to University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where he was pronounced dead.
