Cynthia Erivo has made history as the first black woman to be nominated twice for the same category-Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for Wicked: For Good. Samir Hussein / Samir Hussein / WireImage / Universal Pictures / IMDB She was first nominated in the category last year for Wicked for her incredible performance in the film.
Also nominated alongside Cynthia is Ariana Grande, who won a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture. 2. One Battle After Another leads the nomination race with nine nominations for a motion picture at the 2026 Golden Globes. Warner Bros / IMDB The nine nominations for the film include Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by a Female Actor, Best Performance by a Male Actor, Best Performance by a Female Actor In A Supporting Role, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn), Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score for a Motion Picture. 3. One of the best horror films of 2025, Sinners, earned 7 nominations-and Michael B. Jordan has earned his first ever Best Actor nomination for the film. Warner Bros / IMDB / Gilbert Flores / Getty Images The film got seven Golden Globe nominations, including box office achievement, best actor for Michael B. Jordan, and best director for Ryan Coogler. However, the stellar supporting cast of the film was snubbed in the supporting categories. 4. Indie studio Neon is a big winner with 21 nominations, including five of the six international film nominees. Jafar Panahi Film Production / Mer Film / IMDB The studio Neon received the most overall nominations as compared to any other studio. It received four best picture nods for their international features, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and No Other Choice. On the other hand, Warner Bros. Discovery scored 16 nominations across both film and television categories, clearly proving Neon's massive win. 5. Jacob Elordi has scored two nominations for both a limited series (Narrow Road To The Deep End), and a film (Frankenstein). Amazon Studios / Netflix / IMDB He was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthalogy Series or a Motion Picture made for television for The Narrow Road To The Deep End. For Frankenstein, he was nominated for Best Performance By a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in A Motion Picture. 6. Marty Supreme has scored nominations for best actor, best screenplay, and best comedy or musical category-but the director and supporting actress nominations were snubbed for the film. A24 / IMDB / Earl Gibson III / Getty Images Timothée Chalamet picked up a best actor nomination for the film; however, Gwyneth Paltrow failed to pick up a supporting actress nomination, and Josh Safdie, the director of the film, also missed out on the best director nomination in two surprising snubs for the film. 7. Box office achievement nominations include F1, Sinners, this year's most popular Netflix film, K-pop Demon Hunters, and a film that has not yet been released, Avatar: Fire And Ash-all of which have raised questions around this esteemed category. Netflix / 20th Century Fox / IMDB This category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement is for the films that might not receive their due at the awards and hence includes the blockbusters of the year. So you can imagine how including a Netflix-streamed film like K-pop Demon Hunters, which was only in theaters for 2 weeks, can lead to questions being raised. An even more surprising snub in this category was choosing Avatar: Fire and Ash, a film that is not released, over the hit film Superman. These questionable nods signal the ongoing news of Netflix taking over Warner Bros. Studios, leading to concerns over the future of films and theaters. 8. While people celebrate Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's nominations, Wicked: For Good has been snubbed for Best Comedy or Musical-one category many thought was to be secured by the film.
