Adult content creator Cayla Smith's parents have had different reactions to her OnlyFans career. "Eventually, my mum found out that I was doing OnlyFans," Smith recalled, explaining her mom uncovered her career from someone else. "But she wouldn't say how she knew, even though it was way before I had a big following. It was only a year into it, and I was still learning how to promote myself. She was being weird to me all of a sudden, so I knew she knew about it." Smith continued, "She told me that someone had told her, and I had a feeling it was her husband, my stepdad. Now I don't talk to them because they don't agree with it." Smith - who is from Houston, Texas - received the opposite reaction from dad Mike, who is an ex-pastor. Tyler Baltierra Doesn't Have 'Approval' From Daughter's Adoptive Parents "When my mum found out, I thought, well, I have to tell my dad now," Smith said. "I knew my mum would try and turn everyone against me, so I had to get there first. I was so nervous, but I told him, and he said, 'OK, I support you.' He was really great about it, and it was nice to know he had my back." She continued, "He's still super great. He's very open and super chill, we're very close. I've helped him a lot financially, too. We just have a great relationship." Despite her dad's support, Smith's relationship with others in her family has remained strained. "I don't really have any other super close family members," she said. "Maybe for certain events or family things involving my siblings, I'll go to. But my mum's husband won't even look at me, even if I pop over to drop someone off or something. Now I'm just kind of like, 'OK, well, if people aren't okay with it, that's their choice. But this is my life, so I'm going to continue to do what makes me happy." Smith initially launched her career at age 23, setting up her account to "see what happens" after taking inspiration from another creator. Teen Mom's Jenelle Evans Has Made $1.5 Million on OnlyFans in 4 Years "I've always been a person who watches YouTube, and one of my favorite creators started talking about how she started it," Cayla said. "I remember her saying, 'If you want to do it, just do it.' I felt like I could totally do it, so I thought, why not. She continued, "At the beginning, I was nervous, but I decided to just take cute pictures of myself and see what happened. I'm pretty comfortable in my body, so I found it cool and fun. I guess I didn't really know what I was doing, but honestly, it kind of just grew from there." In her first month with the adult content creation platform, Smith earned approximately $8,000. "I was amazed," she said. "It was a bigger pay check than I'd ever get with a normal job. But I was really realistic and thought about what I needed to spend it on more than what I wanted. I was super broke, so a lot of it went towards rent, food and normal expenses. I was happy, so I committed to it." Within six months, Smith paid off her more than $16,000 student loan debt - and cemented her spot in the industry.
