Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow actor Matthias Schoenaerts has reportedly been sentenced to six months in jail after being arrested for driving without a valid license. Schoenaerts, 47, was arrested in Belgium late last month for operating a motorbike without a valid ID, according to local newspaper VRT. The outlet reported that the actor will spend six months in prison, pay a €4,000 fine and face a one-year driving ban. Schoenaerts was previously barred from driving in the country in 2021. Belga News Agency, another local outlet, reported that Schoenaerts had been stopped twice in 2024 for riding his bike without a valid license. While Schoenaerts will be required to pass a new driving test at the end of his sentence, the star has not publicly addressed the legal incident. Belga further noted that Schoenaerts could file an opposition and appeal the ruling. Us Weekly has reached out to a rep for Schoenaerts for comment. Summer Movie Preview: A Guide to the Must-Watch Films of the Season Schoenaerts' legal drama comes months before his latest movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, hits theaters in summer 2026. He will play a currently unknown villain in the film, which is based on the DC comic franchise of the same name. In the books, the Supergirl villain is Krem of the Yellow Hills. Supergirl will star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, alongside actors Eve Ridley, Emily Beecham, Wil Coban, Alice Hewn and David Krumholtz. "I really struggled to believe I could do it. I even called the director saying, 'I don't know how to be that person. I'm just me,'" Alcock, 25, recently told Forbes Australia of landing the role as the titular superhero. "Eventually I realized the only way through was to trust myself. I always believe life is right on time. Things happen when they're supposed to, whether you feel ready or not." According to Alcock, she underwent months of training before filming began. Forget James Gunn's 'Superman' - Watch This TV Show That Gets the Man of Steel Right "The older I get, the more I realize this isn't a fluke," the House of the Dragon actress told the magazine. "It's not luck. It's work." DC exec James Gunn previously told ScreenRant that Alcock's version of Kara/Supergirl is different from previous iterations. "She's a total mess. I mean, I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman [and] a much more difficult background," Gunn, 59, told ScreenRant in July. "He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents that loved him and were very healthy. Her background was much different than that, and she ended up different [from] her cousin." Alcock briefly appeared in 2025's Superman, which starred David Corenswet as the famed superhero. Just like the comics, Superman and Supergirl are cousins from Krypton - both raised on Earth with superpowers. As for Schoenaerts, he has been excited to join the DC Cinematic Universe. "Truly excited for this one! 🎩πŸͺπŸŒ“πŸ‘½πŸ€–πŸŽƒπŸ§‘πŸΌπŸŽ€ 🎬," he captioned a September selfie via Instagram, wearing a studio-branded shirt. Schoenaerts used "Supergirl" and "Krem From the Yellow Hills" hashtags in his post, potentially hinting at his character's identity. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters June 26, 2026.
