We watched the pilot and flash-forward to winter, I'm halfway through Season 2. Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF NBC / giphy.com Here are my favorite ER moments so far as a newbie to the series (I most recently finished Season 2, Episode 13): *SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASONS 1 & 2* 1. Mark Greene's misdiagnosis and the fallout in "Love's Labor Lost" is one of the greatest episodes of TV I have ever seen. Truly a brutal episode to watch, but it is done so well. The pacing, emotion, and direction. *chef's kiss* NBC 2. The pilot took me by surprise. Carol's overdose was a hell of a way to start a series. To me, it's like the inciting incident for her entire character arc so far, and she is truly one of the most likable characters. The concern of the entire ER is palpable, and it was truly the first moment I realized: this show might be something special. NBC 3. After calling it quits with her fiancé, Tag, on her wedding day, Carol and her friends enjoy the reception without him. It's a nice way to end season 1, and it's cool to see everyone bonding outside County General. NBC 4. Less of a specific moment, but any time John Carter has a mask on is comedy gold. Noah Wyle's facial expressions are top-tier comedy, and whoever figured out it was a great visual gag deserves a medal. NBC 5. I really loved the zaniness of Carol's holiday spirit in the episode "A Miracle Happens Here." It is such a ridiculous subplot of the episode, but quite heartfelt, leading her to embrace some holiday cheer, which leads her coworkers to join her for a terribly delightful rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas." NBC 6. The moment Carter accidentally yelled at Benton made me laugh the hardest, after the young intern stressed about making sure all his boxes were checked with a patient. It was already a gag to this point of Benton yelling "Carter" when he needed him, so having the mild-mannered med student respond, "WHAT?!" caught me by surprise and had me cackling. NBC 7. Little Susie's abandonment was brutal, but so well done. The slow unraveling of Dr. Susan Lewis was heartbreaking and infuriating to watch as a viewer. Poor Big Susie. NBC 8. Now, don't spoil it for me IF she comes back, but a top moment for me was Deb walking away from the ER after her huge error. Aside from loving Ming Na-Wen's acting, I liked this character arc that shows that money can get you in scrubs, but not everyone is cut out for medicine. NBC 9. One of the wildest episodes so far was George Clooney's Batman audition. I mean, Dr. Doug Ross saving a kid from drowning in the episode "Hell and High Water." The whole episode was action-packed, but felt very real given the circumstances. It also showed his character in the field, and that he wasn't this "loose cannon," but a passionate doctor willing to put his life on the line. NBC 10. The simple act of Carol tracking down an unhoused patient, Josh, diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, to deliver his pencils and the jacket off her back was truly touching. As a horror fan, I've seen schizophrenia too often used as a trope, so it was nice to see a more raw interpretation. The episode is also called "Home," and draws great parallels of how lucky Carol is to have a roof over her head, despite all the problems with her deteriorating house. NBC 11. It was very clear since her introduction that Peter Benton's mom, Mae, was dying. But the episode after Mae's death, where Benton finally grieves the death of his mom in a quiet moment alone, after doing everything to distract himself, is extremely moving. NBC 12. I really enjoyed the Season 1 Christmas episode "The Gift" because the ending really stuck with me. Benton's Christmas delivery of organs to someone in need showed a more human side of him, and less of the side where we see him constantly trying to further his career. He watches from the helipad as the helicopter takes off, and Christmas music plays. It really has all the emotions of a holiday special. NBC 13. Another silly moment: an overly solemn Carol declaring a patient's earthworms have died despite her doing everything in her power to revive them. This show is so delightfully unhinged and unserious sometimes. NBC 14. Another general entry, but I really enjoy Mark and Doug's friendship. They butt heads but also stick their necks out for each other. Their chemistry might be at the top of the list ahead of Benton/Carter and Carol/Doug. NBC 15. Another "looney tunes" moment was when members of the ER decided to go to another hospital floor and steal their crash carts back. It was a memorable heist
