If you thought Washington couldn't get any stranger, buckle up, because the White House's latest televised cabinet meeting looked like a surreal talent show where the only "talent" required was praising Donald Trump as loudly as possible. Leading the spectacle this week was Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who helms the org that oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement (aka ICE). During the televised cabinet get-together, Noem decided the laws of meteorology now apparently bend to the whims of the Apprentice alum. At one point, she looked directly at Trump, who appeared to drift in and out of what could generously be called resting his eyes, and delivered a line that instantly entered the Hall of Fame for political fangirl moments. She actually said this, verbatim from multiple media outlets: "Sir, you made it through hurricane season without a hurricane. Even you kept the hurricanes away. We appreciate that." Uh, WHAT?!?! Soooo Trump controls the weather?? If only we'd have known it was that simple! We could have avoided hurricanes forever ago just by asking him! Somewhere, actual scientists are screaming into the void... The idea that Trump is out here parting hurricanes like he's starring in a discount remake of a biblical epic would be wild enough, but Trump's response made it even better. He simply muttered: "Yeah." LOLz! Oh, but Noem didn't stop there. She pushed right ahead into even more praise, saying the Federal Emergency Management Agency is operating "150% faster" now because of him. She assured Trump disaster aid is basically teleporting into communities thanks to his greatness. Uh-huh. Then came her closing serenade: "It's been an honor to work for you. You are a great American. The fights you pick are the right fights. Thank you for letting us get up every day and have a purpose." But the flattery parade wasn't over. Environmental Protection Agency head Lee Zeldin joined the crew with a line straight out of an overly dramatic action movie trailer: "He is willing to take a bullet for all of you tuning in at home ... I'm grateful this holiday season for you." And commerce secretary Howard Lutnick turned the dial all the way to maximum awe: "The greatest Cabinet ever for the greatest president ever. I can't be more proud of how you did it, sir. You created the greatest Cabinet. It is a joy to be at this table." Oookay... The whole time, Trump periodically reminded the press corps how mentally sharp he believes he is. At one point, to assembled reporters, he declared: "Is Trump in good health? I sit here, I do four news conferences a day. I get asked questions from very intelligent lunatics - you people. I give the right answers. There's never a scandal. There's never a problem. I give you answers that solve your little problems." But the meeting couldn't end without one of Trump's signature rants. This time, his attention turned to Somali immigrants in Minnesota - along with that state's Governor Tim Walz and their congressional representative Ilhan Omar - as he unleashed this tirade: "Somalia, which is barely a country, they have no anything. They just run around killing each other. They contribute nothing. I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you. We're gonna go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country. Ilhan Omar is garbage. She's garbage. Her friends are garbage." Yikes... And then, just as abruptly as the performance began, Trump ended the meeting. Even political insiders have been baffled, with analysts openly questioning why these fawning sessions keep happening and who exactly is tuning in. Washington is always strange, but in 2025, it's a whole new genre of bizarro political theater. And this week's episode starring Kristi "Hurricane Whisperer" Noem may go down as one of the wildest yet. Reactions, y'all?? TBH, we're not sure where to go with this one.
