It has been two years since the release of Karan Johar's romantic-drama, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which released in 2023. During an interview, Karan Johar discussed the romantic-drama and hinted at the potential of developing a separate film centred on the love story of Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra, which was briefly shown in the movie. In an interview, Karan shared his thoughts on the film, saying, "It is right up there with My Name Is Khan and, of course, my first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains special as it brought a smile to my father's (producer Yash Johar) face.
