Miley Cyrus is sharing a glimpse into her private engagement with fellow singer Maxx Morando. "The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I've been astounded that I've actually been able to have and being able to kind of have more choice," Cyrus, 33, told People of her recent engagement in an interview published Tuesday, December 2. "I think it's also being older, being more protective of what I'm open to sharing." While celebrating the upcoming film Avatar: Fire and Ash, Cyrus - who is featured on the movie's soundtrack thanks to the song "Dream as One" - tried to connect her relationship to the themes explored in the Disney film. "[The movie is] about love, family resilience and kind of reconnection and that stronger together idea," she explained, "and so I thought it was kind of perfectly thematic and aligned with where I am in my life now." Disney Stars Through the Years: Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, More On Monday, December 1, Cyrus and Morando, 27, turned heads during a rare red carpet appearance for the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Loyal fans noticed the "Party in the USA" singer wearing a gold and diamond ring on that finger during her date night. A source later confirmed to Us Weekly that Cyrus is indeed engaged, with the proposal happening in November. "Miley never thought she would get married again, and Maxx changed everything for her," a source exclusively shared with Us. "They have a really healthy and private relationship." Although Cyrus has been in a slew of public romances, including relationships with Liam Hemsworth, Cody Simpson and Patrick Schwarzenegger, the Hannah Montana star experienced something different once she met Morando on a blind date in the summer of 2021. "He's very similar to me. We just don't take life too seriously," Cyrus told Harper's Bazaar in November 2024 of her now fiancé. "Maxx just inspires me so much." As for what makes this relationship work, Cyrus previously teased that the world of astrology may deserve some credit for why the sparks were instant. "He's a Scorpio and so is his grandfather, that's what makes Maxx just so cool because he can sting. Like, [Scorpios are] very cool, think that they're little angels, until it turns around and they got a sting," she explained on a June episode of the "Sorry We're Cyrus" podcast. "I couldn't be with someone [who] doesn't sting. They would have been toast already." Miley Cyrus and Fiance Maxx Morando's Relationship Timeline While it's too soon to reveal any wedding plans, Miley will likely remember some valuable advice she received from her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. Although the couple called it quits in 2022 after 28 years of marriage, Miley's parents once passed along some words of wisdom to the Disney Channel star that won't be forgotten. "Nothing and no one stays the same," Miley told Cosmopolitan in August 2017. "Grow, evolve, change with each other and celebrate your love's journey!"
