The Syracuse Orange have a new player committed for 2026 and you might be familiar with his work. Rapper Toosii, known for his viral 2020 song "Love Cycle" and his 2023 single "Favorite Song," announced via Instagram on Tuesday, December 2, that he has committed to play football for his hometown team next season. "COMMITTED 🙏🏽 For every kid who ever had a dream, make it reality," he wrote in the caption, alongside a carousel of photos of himself in his Cuse uniform. "God's will is the way and no one can stop it not even the devil. I wanna thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for even giving me the strength to chase what I believed when so many people told me I couldn't. Thank you to the people who supported me as well, it never go unnoticed." Toosii, whose real name is Nau'Jour Grainger, grew up in Syracuse before moving to North Carolina at age 12. He said in his post that he has not been back since. Travis Kelce Breaks Down How He Decided to Return for 13th NFL Season "When Coach Fran [Brown] called, I knew it was a sign from God," he wrote. "So with that being said, Cuse I'm coming home 🍊 #COMMITTED #315baby #AGTG" Now 25, Toosii played high school football in Rolesville, North Carolina, and was listed as a 5-foot-6 wide receiver and kick returner as a junior in 2016. He did not appear on the school's roster, posted by MaxPreps, as a senior, though rosters on the high school sports website are often incomplete. On3, which covers football and basketball recruiting, now lists him as 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, and says he had offers from Maryland and Sacramento State as well. Toosii said he also had interest from USC and Duke, according to NBC Sports. The rapper announced his commitment just hours after canceling a scheduled performance in Albany, New York, about 150 miles east of Syracuse. He was slated to play at the Just a Little Music Festival: Homecoming Edition on Saturday, December 6. Breaking Down Travis Kelce's Career Moves Off the Football Field "Due to issues with artist production and other circumstances unfortunately this show is cancelled," A Little Booking Agency said in a statement posted to the MVP Arena website. "Our goal is always to give the fan the best experience. Refunds will be given through point of purchase." Though Toosii has not returned to Syracuse since his childhood, it isn't for a lack of trying. He had four shows scheduled in his hometown between 2021 and 2023, but each was canceled for various reasons. In one instance, he was set to perform with Lil Durk, who suffered an eye injury before the concert. Police axed another performance after allegedly receiving warnings of potential violence at the show. Despite not making it back to Syracuse, Toosii has said he still considers the city to be home. "Syracuse is a rough place," he told The Beat's Jus Mic in 2023. "They used to say that ... if you can make it in Syracuse, you can make it in New York. If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere." Syracuse football is coming off a season that started promising but ended with eight consecutive losses, including a 70-7 rout at the hands of Notre Dame on November 22. The Orange are scheduled to open the 2026 season at home against New Hampshire on September 6.
