D'Arcy Carden felt the pressure of putting a five-star performance into The Five-Star Weekend. "There's a lot of emotion, and I'm a comedy girl," Carden, 45, said during her Monday, December 1, appearance on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast. "And it was just like, there were certain scenes that it was, I don't know if you'd call that scared, but it is that thing where you're like, you better bring it. You gotta show up, and there's no way to not. You have to." The Five-Star Weekend is an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand's 2023 novel of the same name. The story follows food blogger Hollis Shaw, who invites four friends from different times in her life to spend a weekend in Nantucket after her husband's tragic death. "It's a drama. It's a comedy-drama. I actually don't know what we're calling it yet," Carden said of the series, which will stream on Peacock. A release date has not yet been announced. "It'll come out when it comes out. I don't know when that is." Biggest Differences Between Netflix's 'The Perfect Couple' Show and the Book Maid and This Is Us writer Bekah Brunstetter serves as the series' creator, writer and executive producer. Jennifer Garner, who also serves as an executive producer, will star as Hollis. The Five-Star Weekend's star-studded cast also includes Chloe Sevigny, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, Harlow Jane, Timothy Olyphant, David Denman, Josh Hamilton, Rob Huebel, Judy Greer, West Duchovny, Tory Devon Smith, Henry Eikenberry and Roberta Colindrez. Carden gushed about some of her fellow cast members during her podcast appearance, calling Garner, 53, "the best." "And then Gemma Chan and Regina Hall. It was this incredible ... Timothy Olyphant ... who we love so much," she continued. Shepard, 50, then asked Carden if Olyphant, 57, "charmed the f***" out of his costars. Seacia Pavao/Netflix "Yes, he charmed the f*** out of my husband ... We're going to dinner with him on Friday. I love him and his amazing wife. They're just cool. They're so cool," Carden responded. Peacock announced The Five-Star Weekend in January. The series comes after the success of Netflix's The Perfect Couple, an adaptation of another popular Hilderbrand novel, in September 2024. A second season based on Hilderbrand's novel Swan Song is currently in the works. Hilderbrand, 56, and showrunner Jenna Lamia told Deadline at the time that their goal with The Perfect Couple was to create a show that feels like "a beach read in TV" form. "That is what we were going for," Lamia said. "Because I think a beach read is a wonderful thing." Us Breaks Down Casting Choices for 9 Highly Anticipated Book Adaptations Hilderbrand added, "I think Hollywood realized there is an audience for this. There are not just women, but a lot of people who are interested in these novels brought to life." According to Hilderbrand, even more adaptations could potentially be on the way. "The Winter Street book series has been optioned, and 28 Summers [has been optioned] with a movie company," the author, who has written more than 30 beach reads, told Boston.com in July 2024. "I'm going to hope and pray that The Perfect Couple is successful enough that those all end up getting greenlit. That would be so much fun, and I can be as involved or as uninvolved as I want to be on those."
