Charlie Kirk's death back in September continues to echo across the political and media landscape. And now, one of the men who stood closest to the political pundit in those tragic final moments is breaking his silence. Brian Harpole (pictured above), Kirk's former head of security, has stepped forward to confront the digital speculation that spiraled into full-blown conspiracy theories about his supposed role in the influencer's killing. ICYMI, Harpole - who led Kirk's security detail when the Turning Point USA founder was shot during a Q&A event in Utah more than two months ago - found himself in the midst of the storm after the tragedy. Some internet sleuths latched onto a brief moment caught on camera in the seconds before the fatal shot and claimed that Harpole's subtle hand movements during the event at Utah Valley University were supposedly coded signals to the shooter. But regardless, the theories spread. And now, Harpole has come forward to confirm that NONE of it was grounded in reality. In a long interview late last month on the Shawn Ryan Show Podcast, he tried to put the rumors to rest once and for all. Harpole started by denying the hand signal allegations, saying: "If we needed to relay a message, then we'd [say it] on comms... if we notice something, we're not gonna use a hand signal." Harpole went on to explain that genuine tactical signaling in professional security is designed to be unmistakable, not something that looks like absentminded fidgeting: "[We'd use signals that] can't be confused with a man scratching his ass. ... It's not good communication." He stressed to host Shawn Ryan that if anyone on the team had been signaling each other, there would have been immediate movement, eye contact, and response. None of that happened on the day Kirk was killed. Related: Man Digs Up Murdered Wife To Rape Her Corpse But the theories didn't stop with hand gestures. Some people online turned their attention to security member Frank Turek, claiming he was suspicious simply because he adjusted his hat. Harpole was blunt about refuting that accusation: "It's like, okay, substantiate. So he touched his hat. There were a line of people in the front and other people that did all kinda things, everybody's subject to that." Even more distressing to him were the theories targeting Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk. Some corners of the internet, seemingly hungry for sinister narratives, dragged her name into the chaos and made unsubstantiated claims that she was supposedly responsible for her husband's death. Harpole refuted those, too: "I get it, I'm not a conspiracy guy, but I do believe that there are things out here bigger than you and I that are in operations. ... She's a victim, that's her husband. How people without any proof are saying she's responsible, that's what makes me lose faith." And regarding his frustration with the rumor mill, Harpole admitted he struggled to process the aftermath of the tragedy online, too: "I did not trust my own eyes, ears, what I was reading, what I was watching. A lot of people have sensationalized this, and that is a real shame... it makes it impossible to find the truth." Of course, Charlie Kirk's final moments were witnessed by thousands in attendance, and thousands more online as smartphone cameras captured the chaos as it happened. TBH that makes it even more unsettling how there were so many completely unsubstantiated conspiracies flying around immediately afterwards despite the event itself having so many witnesses.
