Jeez. The upcoming Lifetime movie about the Idaho murders is under extreme fire, and the stars just made it way worse! A new made-for-TV movie as part of the network's Ripped from the Headlines movie series is in the works. It'll follow the devastating slayings of four college students, Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, by now-convicted felon Bryan Kohberger in November 2022. The murder trial only just ended months ago, so it's all still VERY raw. That's why many have been so outspoken about the movie - and the leads just made the outrage ten times worse!!! Related: Bryan's Defense Was Going To Force Surviving Roommates To Testify FOR HIM! Amid backlash about the making of the movie, leading lady Haylie Hansen, who is playing Kaylee Goncalves, went viral for posting clips dancing in her costume covered in fake blood. The actress has also been in Heretic, Hallmark's The Chicken Sisters, and more. Actor Miles Merry, who is playing the killer, was also seen on social media in costume. Haylie has since deleted her posts, but they can be seen (below): @crimesandtheories Haylie Hansen, Girl what are you doing??? Lifetime is making a movie on the horrible Idaho four case and these actors and actresses are tone deaf! #hayliehanson #idahofourmovie #idahofour #truecrimetok #lifetime ♬ Suspenseful and tense orchestra(1318015) - SoLaTiDo Wow... Yes, there is a story behind the case. Yes, Lifetime and its parent company are just trying to make a buck. Yes, the actors and actresses have shown poor taste." Oof. The family went on: "Yes, we are hurt. Yes, we are disappointed. Yes, we miss Kaylee and Maddie every day! Yes, it has been less than six months since the case resolved. And yes, our emotions are still very raw." They also claimed they had no say in the making of this film: "Yes, we wanted the death penalty. Yes, you never reached out to us to see how making a movie might affect us or any family members. Yes, this movie is too soon." They concluded their statement by expressing their hope that no other family will have to face a horrendous tragedy like this, writing: "And finally - yes, we hope this type of tragedy never happens to you or anyone you love, and we hope you don't have to suffer when a company chooses to make money over common decency and makes a movie about your loved ones." A Change.org petition titled "Stop the production of the Idaho 4 movie" has reached over 16,000 signatures. It was created by Emily Leontiy, who has been following the case and was in contact with the families, encouraging folks to "stand together to protect the dignity of the Idaho Four and prevent any further anguish to those they left behind." Many others have demanded a stop to the production, arguing: "It is WRONG to capitalize on brutal deaths. This needs to be stopped." "We don't need a movie. We especially don't need to see your hired actors making videos in FULL COSTUME and MAKEUP while dancing and giggling for likes and follows." "I think about these beautiful souls every single day all the way across the country. It's time for them to rest peacefully. This movie isn't what the families need. They deserve closure!" Though not everyone agrees that the hate should be aimed at the performers, writing on TikTok: "I understand that the Idaho four case was tragic, and I trust that I was locked in. But they're filming a movie, she's not mocking the deceased, they're dancing in between scenes, [lightening] the mood, considering how dark the case was but picking on the poor actress is not ok" "be mad at the producers & the people who are making the movie.. not the actors... they are quite literally playing a character... look at all the other crime movies.. you don't think they had families as well?" Hmm. The movie is being produced by the same team behind The Murdaugh Murders. Haylie and Miles have not commented on the controversy at this time. Reactions, Perezcious readers?!
