Or maybe you didn't, probably because you didn't realize it was her. Gilbert Flores / Getty Images Swapping her usual Chanel looks for a medieval brown smock, Lily-Rose looks totally unrecognizable, largely due to the prosthetics morphing her face. (Take a look here!) And the online reaction got me thinking of all the other times that conventionally beautiful movie stars adopted new faces for movie roles. For clarity, this list will only include times actors underwent transformations to play other humans, because IMO, seeing a celeb get a new nose is way more intriguing than them being painted blue for seven hours. So, without further ado, here's a roundup of stars who looked so different playing other people that you might just be surprised by some of the names that come up. 1. Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf in The Hours (2002) (C)Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection This is another angle of the all-important prosthetic nose, which Harvey Weinstein apparently tried to talk her out of wearing, saying: "I paid a million dollars for that girl, and no one knows who she is." Aren't we glad she didn't listen? (C)Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection Here's what Nicole looked like in 2003 when she won an Oscar for the movie. Jeffrey Mayer / Getty Images 2. Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots (2018) Liam Daniel / (C)Focus Features/courtesy Everett Collect / Everett Collection Along with intense hair and makeup, Margot had a fake nose and intricate prosthetics to replicate the Queen's smallpox boils and scars. "I tried out three or four different styles of noses on Margot," makeup artist Jenny Shircore told Deadline. "We camera tested them, everybody looked at them, and in the end, a decision was made that we'd go for Nose B." And there it is! Focus Features Here's what Margot looked like in 2018. Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly in Bombshell (2019) Hilary Bronwyn Gayle / (C) Lionsgate / courtesy Everett Collection Her prosthetics included pieces around her eyes, nose, and chin to achieve a likeness to the real Megyn Kelly - she even had plugs up her nose to change the shape of her nostrils. Bradley Cooper as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro (2023) Jason McDonald / (C) Netflix / Courtesy Everett Collection His prosthetic nose was the subject of much discussion at the time, but the resemblance was certainly quite accurate. Christian Bale as Dick Cheney in Vice (2018) Matt Kennedy / Everett Collection / Everett Collection In addition to the facial prosthetics, Christian wore a body suit and gained weight for the role. You can't say he's not dedicated. (C) Annapurna Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection, Carley Margolis / Getty Images Here's what Christian looked like in 2018. Jon Kopaloff / Getty Images 6. Lily James as Pamela Anderson in Pam & Tommy (2022) Erica Parise / (C)Hulu / Courtesy Everett Collection Apparently, the greatest hurdle was the spatial difference between Lily and Pamela's respective brows and hairlines. Lily's gap was significantly smaller, which required creating a forehead appliance to adjust Lily's hairline. This also helped them cover Lily's distinctive brows, which were replaced by Pam's iconic thin brows. She also had fake teeth and boobs, of course. Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (2017) (C) Focus Features /Courtesy Everett Collection The custom-made prosthetics reshaped a significant amount of Gary's face and head, capturing Churchill's jowls and distinctive features. He also wore a padded suit to replicate the politician's physique. I feel claustrophobic just thinking about it all.
