[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content] Buckle up, y'all, for one of the most insane stories you will ever read... According to prosecutors in the Eastern District of Texas, 21-year-old Gavin Rivers Weisenburg (pictured above, right in his mugshot) and 20-year-old Tanner Christopher Thomas (above, left) allegedly spent nearly a year developing a plan to seize control of Gonâve, an island just off the coast of Haiti with nearly 87,000 residents, and remake it into the setting of their grotesque sexual fantasies. Federal authorities claim their objective wasn't political or ideological, but a weird and disturbing desire for incredibly unsettling sexual violence. And it was allegedly fueled by an unspeakable push to carry out mass-murder, large-scale rape, and exert control over a population that had done nothing but exist on land the two young men believed they could simply take. Seriously. Related: Man Digs Up Murdered Wife To Rape Her Corpse So, according to NPR and Fox 4 News, who have both viewed the indictment against these two young Texas men, the federal government has laid out quite a chilling accusation. Prosecutors claim these guys hoped to recruit homeless people in the Washington, DC area, gather together a ton of weapons, and prepare for a coup in which they would eliminate every man on the island and subjugate the women and children into becoming their full-time sex slaves. WHAT?!?! Per NPR, the indictment reads: "The co-conspirators conducted research, reconnaissance, recruiting, planning, and sought training to effectuate their plan. It was the goal of the conspiracy to take military control of the Island of Gonâve by murdering all the men on the island and capturing all the women." The pair appeared committed enough to this insane plot to uproot their own lives for it, too, investigators claim. That allegedly included enrolling in courses they believed would make them better prepared to pull this off. Authorities say Weisenburg sought fire academy training before dropping out after a few months, and then later flew to Thailand to take sailing lessons but backed out due to the cost. Thomas then allegedly enlisted in the Air Force to gain military training and also to relocate closer to DC so he could supposedly begin recruiting the vulnerable and unhoused into their alleged militia. But there is another layer to this case that adds even more darkness, too: both men have also been charged with producing child pornography. Uhhhh. Whoa. Those allegations are tied to an alleged August 2024 incident in which they are accused of coercing a minor into recorded sex acts, multiple news reports say. Now, the mens' attorneys suggest the government may be linking unrelated allegations in a way that overstates the narrative. Still, the charges stand. And if convicted, the sentences could stretch into the decades or even life behind bars. Weisenburg's attorney, David Finn, has publicly urged people not to jump to conclusions. He told Fox 4: "I encourage everyone to hold their horses and stay tuned. An indictment is simply an allegation. And while there is some truth to the allegations, I believe that it will become clear what actually did, did not, and could not have happened." In a separate interview with NPR, Finn also offered a similar sentiment: "While there is some limited factual basis to the Government's Press Release, I'm reminded that something can be somewhat accurate yet wildly misleading at the same time." We're not lawyers or anything, but shouldn't the defendant's lawyer not be saying things like "there is some limited factual basis" and "there is some truth" to the accusations??? It sure seems like that kind of f**ks up your whole case right there, dude! Just saying... Nevertheless, he then echoed that tone again in another statement to the Denton Record-Chronicle: "If anyone's initial reaction to the Government's press release was 'this sounds crazy, wild, impossible or beyond belief,' I would encourage them to hold that thought. In fact, the press release highlights and underscores the sheer lunacy of this alleged pirate fantasy." Thomas has also pleaded not guilty, FWIW. His attorney, John Helms, told the Record-Chronicle: "At this point, I am looking forward to receiving the information and evidence the Government is required to produce to support these charges, and I will be vigorously defending Tanner against these charges." Like Finn, Helms has also suggested prosecutors may struggle to substantiate every aspect of what is being alleged. Here's more on the story (below): Sheesh! Obviously, we'll be tracking this case as it moves through the legal system. After all, an entire island's population was allegedly considered collateral in an absolutely insane fantasy of conquest and cruelty. Reactions, y'all? Share 'em in the comments (below)...
