Like, guys, I was 10. I was a child."by Stephanie SoteriouBuzzFeed StaffFacebookPinterestLink Millie Bobby Brown was just 11 years old when she shot to global fame playing Eleven in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things back in 2016, which means that she has fully grown up under the glare of the public eye. John Shearer / Getty Images In case you missed it, back in 2018, a then-14-year-old Millie was asked if she thinks "the planet is flat" when she was on Instagram Live, and she responded with huge enthusiasm as she recalled recently watching a conspiracy theory video about the topic. Instagram @milliebobbybrown / Via x.com "Guys, there are so many facts that it's flat," she then said. "I mean, think about it. Guys, you don't even know... I think I am a... What do they call it? I think they call it a flat-earther." Instagram @milliebobbybrown / Via x.com Reacting to comments from the live's viewers, Millie added at the time: "Everybody's saying the earth is not flat. How do you know?! Because did you know... I'm not even gonna say it because I'm probably going to be shut down on Instagram or something." Needless to say, this clip has haunted Millie in the years since it happened, and in 2022, she even addressed the conspiracy theory in an episode of Vanity Fair's lie detector series, where she confirmed that she no longer believes that the earth is flat. Vanity Fair / Via youtu.be Poking fun at her previous faux pas, she did also joke: "Although I've never seen the... You know when you're on a plane, and sometimes you can see it? The curve? I've not seen that yet."When the test operator asked if she'd ever seen satellite photos of Earth, Millie drily retorted: "Yeah, I have. Thanks, Judd." And now, Millie has reflected on what it is like to still be held accountable for things she said as a child, now that she is an adult. The star also revealed that her phone was taken away from her after the flat-earther incident. Rodin Eckenroth / Getty Images During an appearance on the Dish podcast, Millie said: "I started this process when I was 10, this career, and now people read stuff back to me that I said when I was 10 or 11, and I'm like: 'I can't believe I said that out loud,' one. Two... Like, a journalist wrote it down, and now it's repeated to me at 21, and I'm like: 'Ahhhh, my god, I can't believe I said that!'" Dish Podcast host and esteemed chef Angela Hartnett could not hide her disbelief at what Millie said, exclaiming: "I'm sorry, you were 10?! Give you a break, for god's sake, can they not think of something original? That seems ridiculous!" Dish "I know, tell me about it," Millie replied. Angela's co-host and British DJ Nick Grimshaw then added: "Imagine having things quoted back to you [that] you said at 10? Like, guys, I was 10. I was a child." Dish "Because I was, like, an idiot," Millie then confessed. "I was like: 'The earth is flat!' And everyone is like: 'OK, somebody take her phone off of her!'" Dish For what it's worth, Nick and Angela were quick to reassure Millie as they jokingly told her that "everyone" is an idiot when they are a child. Millie has always been incredibly candid about how hard it has been to grow up in the public eye, with the star recently opening up about how deeply impacted she was by people criticising her appearance during a press tour earlier this year. Carlos Alvarez / Getty Images The star was even accused of aging "badly" as people tore apart everything from her makeup to her styling. Speaking to British Vogue, Millie said of that time: "I was depressed for three, four days. I was crying every day." Kevin Winter / Getty Images "I respect journalism. I love reading articles on my favorite people and hearing what they're up to. I understand that there's paparazzi, even though it's invasive, even though it feels like shit to me - I know that's your job... " Millie reiterated elsewhere in the interview. "But don't, in your headline, slam me at the get-go. It is so wrong, and it is bullying, especially to young girls who are new to this industry and are already questioning everything about it."
