Jodie Sweetin's struggles with addiction started YOUNG - and in connection to her co-star Candace Cameron Bure! During a candid episode of the Skinny Confidential podcast last Thursday, the Full House alum revealed her first experience with alcohol came when she was just 14 years old and a guest at her pal Candace's wedding! The actress explained: "Well, the first time I ever drank, I was like 14 ... and it was at Candace's wedding, and I was just a blackout drinker." Whoa! Related: Candace's INSANE Way Of Handling 'Weird' Celeb Feuds Jodie said it was "awful," "ugly," and "embarrassing," adding: "My mother was horrified." Oof. As for how she was getting alcohol at that age, well... it was startling easy: "I was at the table, and I was drinking, and - I was across the room from my mom. So they would pour a glass of wine... and then they'd get around to pouring more, and I was like, 'I'll take a little more, please.'" Why was anyone even serving her at that age?? Considering Candace's holier-than-thou attitude these days, we're shocked this was allowed, even back then! By the next day, The Jane Mysteries star was "horrified" and felt "awful" - but she also noticed that something "clicked" for her. "I was like, 'Ooh, that was fun.'" This marked the start of her partying lifestyle, which lasted years, she recalled: "I'd say around 15, 16, I knew that I drank and partied in a way that my friends did not, and they were like, 'What, bro? Settle down.' I would be like, 'Okay, well, now I've got to go find somebody that I can do these drugs with.' Or, you know, it was like finding different people that didn't make you feel so bad about what you were doing." Oof. That's a struggle so many with addiction challenges can relate to, we bet. Previously, Jodie said on the Barely Famous podcast that she turned to alcohol as a way to cope with boredom and loneliness following Full House. It later led to drug use, including cocaine, crystal meth, and ecstasy. She eventually went to rehab in her 20s, but relapsed after having a kid. She's now been sober now for many years: "It's been up and down, but it's been 16 years since I've drank alcohol and 13 years since I relapsed on meds with a car accident that I was in." Amazing! Sobriety is a daily battle, so being sober for that long is truly an accomplishment! Wild to think it all started at Candace's wedding...
