Warner Bros. Discovery will honor director Jon Favreau's enduring Will Ferrell-led holiday film with the first annual celebration of "December the TwELFth." Released Nov. 7, 2003, the New Line movie also stars James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner and Bob Newhart. Unfolding Dec. 12, the festivities will begin with a special noon performance from Elf the Musical in New York City's Times Square. Throughout the day, fans will enjoy a one-day pop-up of Elf photo stations, shopping options and opportunities to write to Santa Claus. The film centers on Buddy (Ferrell), an elf who ventures from the North Pole to the Big Apple in hopes of connecting with his father (Caan). Warner Bros. Discovery will also mark the occasion by matching American Red Cross donations up to $100,000 on that day. Guests enjoying the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood this holiday season can celebrate December the TwELFth with a visit to the Warner Bros. Studio Store to see original costumes and Elf-centric window displays. Fans can also browse the Gimbles-inspired merchandise display. In his review of Elf for The Hollywood Reporter, critic Michael Rechtshaffen wrote, "Will Ferrell is hilarious in this delightful elf-out-of-water holiday confection." He added that "there would be no Elf without Ferrell, and whether he's trying to hopscotch his way across Broadway or attempting to navigate his first escalator, he always manages to work a rousing subversive element into his character's core innocence."
