I thought you were better than that MMA!!!"by Brian GalindoBuzzFeed StaffFacebookPinterestLinkHot Topic🔥 Full coverage and conversation on the Met Gala Over the last two decades, the Met Gala has gone from a fancy museum fundraiser to a huge cultural moment that draws the biggest celebs and designers in the world, and, most recently, influencers too. The celebs treat the carpet like their own personal catwalk, and we people at home judge every look (don't act like you don't!). At this point, it's easily the biggest and most important fashion event of the year, rivaling only the Oscars in glitz and glamour. Jamie McCarthy / Getty Images And earlier this week, The Met announced that The Costume Institute's annual exhibition and Met Gala theme is "Costume Art." Taylor Hill / WireImage / Getty Images Using an image of a statuette of the Greek goddess Nike as part of its artwork design, The Costume Institute described the exhibition as: "Focusing primarily on Western art from prehistory to the present, the show will explore artistic representations of the dressed body, pairing fashions and artworks from the Museum's vast collection to highlight the inherent relationship between clothing and the body." Sepia Times / Sepia Times/Universal Images Group via Getty Images The video announcement posted on both The Met's and Vogue's Instagram accounts highlights that the exhibition is being sponsored by Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos. @metmuseum / Via instagram.com BuzzFeed TrendingHot TopicLet's chat about all things Met GalaSee our Met Gala Discussions Traditionally, big fashion houses have been the primary sponsors of The Costume Institute's annual exhibition and the Met Gala. Like last year, when Louis Vuitton sponsored "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." Over on X, the news was met with a lot frustration: Editor's Note: While we can't endorse what X has become, we can bring you the worthwhile moments that still exist there, curated and free of the surrounding chaos. @Louis Pisano / Via x.com the bezos sponsoring next year's met gala pic.twitter.com/ODHDh0WS4g- izzy 🫐 (@beuck_) November 17, 2025 VH1/ @beuck_ / Via Twitter: @beuck_ @lacurvadelamod / Via x.com @Mother7Mary / Via x.com @lefilmara / Via x.com @daisandconfused / Via x.com While over on The Met's Instagram account,* people in the comments were outraged at the Bezoses involvement, with many saying that it was ruining the entire Met Gala for them: *Vogue's Insta comments seemed like they might have been scrubbed of anything mentioning the Bezoses. @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com @metmuseum / Via instagram.com Alright, I am curious what you guys think about the Bezoses being the sponsors. Was it the wrong call on The Met and Vogue? Or do you think people are making too much of the thing about it since rich people donate to museums all the time, and at least this is going to a hugely popular exhibit? Or maybe you already think the Met Gala is an elitist event, so having Jeff and Lauren as the sponsors isn't a stretch? Well, let us know in the comments below!!!
