And this year has been filled with so much new Hunger Games hype thanks to Suzanne Collins releasing Sunrise on the Reaping. Scholastic Sunrise on the Reaping is the second prequel novel in Collins's series, set 24 years before the events of the first book. It tells the story of the 50th Hunger Games, aka the Second Quarter Quell, and notably the Games that Haymitch Abernathy competed in and won. For years, fans have begged for a book detailing his games, and Collins delivered in every possible way. It's honestly one of the saddest stories in this entire book series. Lionsgate / Via youtube.com Haymitch's games were mentioned and discussed in Catching Fire, sparking so many fans to wonder what really happened in that arena. It even inspired a beloved fan-made film that has over 14 million views on YouTube since it was uploaded 13 years ago. And just like Collins's previous four books - The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Sunrise on the Reaping was immediately greenlit by Lionsgate to be adapted into a movie directed by Francis Lawrence, who has directed every adaptation except the first movie. Lionsgate / Via youtube.com Production took place over the summer, following an incredible marketing rollout that announced the cast. It was epic, considering we got some new characters in the Hunger Games world, as well as younger versions of some beloved characters. CAN YOU HEAR ME YELLING WITH EXCITEMENT?! Alright, let's take this one step at a time. First, here's the official poster, which is a beautiful reimagining of the Sunrise on the Reaping book cover: Lionsgate Next up, we've got some first-look photos, starting with Joseph Zada as young Haymitch on Reaping Day in District 12: Murray Close / Lionsgate Then, we've got Haymitch and Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, sitting in a field that Hunger Games know all too well. And, it looks like the scene when Lenore gives Haymitch the flint striker on his birthday: Murray Close / Lionsgate THE GEESE, TOO! And our last first-look photo is of Haymitch and Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner in the arena during the 50th Hunger Games: Murray Close / Lionsgate Alright, now we've got the first teaser trailer, which shows A LOT. I don't want to spoil big plot things for non book readers, but we see glimpses of very pivotal scenes throughout the teaser: Lionsgate / Via youtube.com We also get a first look at even more characters, like Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, Percy Daggs IV as Ampert Latier, and more. Lionsgate / Via youtube.com And, arguably, one of the most important aspects is that we get to see the actors who are portraying younger versions of iconic characters from previous Hunger Games books and movies. First up, here's Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, who was previously played by Tom Byth and Donald Sutherland: Lionsgate / Via youtube.com ALL OF THEM WEARING RED! Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, who was previously played by Philip Seymour Hoffman: Lionsgate / Via youtube.com And, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, who was previously played by Elizabeth Banks: Lionsgate / Via youtube.com Also, now that we've got our first proper look at Zada as Haymitch, here he is side-by-side with Woody Harrelson, who also narrates the end of the teaser trailer: Lionsgate / Via youtube.com Alright, that's A LOT of new Sunrise on the Reaping content.
