The incident took place in January 1982, when Ozzy was performing in Iowa as part of his Diary of a Madman tour. Paul Natkin / Getty Images He has always maintained that he did not know the bat was real, and genuinely thought it was a rubber toy that had been thrown on stage. He said that he realized something was wrong when the bat "gave a little crunch," and he ultimately had to go to the hospital to undergo a series of rabies vaccinations as a result. Larry Marano / Getty Images For what it's worth, a teenage boy later claimed that he had thrown the already-dead bat onto the stage as a joke. But - remarkably - while this is arguably the most renowned animal-head-biting incident of Ozzy's, it's actually not the only one, with the star also biting the head off a live dove one year earlier. This time, it was during a meeting with executives at his record label, CBS Records, as Ozzy and his wife, Sharon Osbourne - who also worked as his manager - tried to launch his solo career after he was kicked out of his band, Black Sabbath, in 1979. Fin Costello / Getty Images Ozzy previously said that he took live doves into the meeting as a joking gesture of peace, but he ultimately ended up biting one of the birds' heads off and spitting it back out, leaving the execs understandably horrified. In his autobiography, Ozzy recalled: "I was pissed, I'd been drinking all day. I just said: 'Fuck it,' and bit its head off." And Ozzy's son, Jack Osbourne, has now shared some more details about what happened while competing on the British reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!. Larry Busacca / Getty Images If you didn't know, Ozzy died earlier this year at age 76, and Jack has been open about his grief for his dad throughout his time on the show, which launched on Sunday. But it was his famous father's wild antics that his celebrity campmates wanted to learn more about during Wednesday's episode, and Jack was more than happy to oblige. When asked who came up with the idea for him to bite the head off the bat, Jack shared: "That was just him, that was just him in all his divine creativity. It was just a joke." ITV "And the dove thing happened because they went to the record label, the story was that the record label wasn't going to put any marketing behind the record, they didn't give a fuck," Jack continued. "So my mom was like: 'Hey, come do a meet and greet with all the marketing execs and your A&R team and all that, we're gonna do something kind of showy, here's these doves, put them in your jacket, and when you go in there I want you to release the doves just kind of like 'Hey, I'm this peaceful guy.''" Luxiangjian4711 / Getty Images "So they do that, and the whole record company is like: 'Oh, it's so cute,'" he went on. "Well, my dad was just shit-house drunk, and he sits on the lap of this exec from CBS Records, this woman, and she's kind of awkward, like: 'Oh my god, he sat on my lap.'" ITV "And this dove lands on her knee, he grabs the dove, bites its head off, and spits it on her," Jack said as his campmates giggled in shock. "And it was just pandemonium; security comes in, he gets kicked out, and before they'd got to the hotel, it had gone everywhere. All over the news that this had happened, like, they leaked it. And then instantly, his album charted." ITV But while Jack told the story as though it were a funny, lighthearted anecdote about his dad, many of the show's viewers were left horrified. Commenting on a TikTok clip, one person wrote: "Sorry but who talks so proudly about such a cruel incident." Kevork Djansezian / Getty Images "I don't think it's funny tbh poor bird," somebody else added, while another wrote: "I was disappointed in nobody saying how wrong this was."And the sentiment was the same over on X, where one tweet reads: "'it was just a joke' he bit the head off of a dove and spit it on a woman... not that funny is it.""Maybe I'm too woke but I don't find biting a doves head off funny," another viral post echoes. One more points out: "Normalizing biting a head of a living dove is mental doesn't matter who your dad is."
