New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is breathing on his own as he recovers from a gunshot wound sustained on Sunday, November 16, outside a midtown Manhattan restaurant. Boyd, 29, updated his followers via his Instagram Story on Wednesday, November 19, posting a picture of himself in his hospital bed. "God is real, God is powerful!" he wrote over the image. "I'm sorry, I have no words at the moment. Just grateful! I'm coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!" Police say that Boyd was shot in the abdomen at around 2 a.m. ET after a dispute turned violent outside Sei Less restaurant on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Jets QB Justin Fields Was 'Crying on the Ground' in Closet After Tough Week Boyd has since undergone several medical procedures, according to ABC News, and as of Monday the bullet remained lodged in his lung. Jets coach Aaron Glenn said on Wednesday that Boyd has been upgraded to stable condition and is "going to come out of this thing really, really well," according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, but the NYPD has released photos of a man they believe is connected to the incident. They believe he fled the scene in a blue BMW. Boyd signed with the Jets in March but has not played a game this season due to a shoulder injury. Still, Glenn, 53, praised him for staying engaged with the team. Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Suffers Gruesome Knee Injury, Taken to Hospital "He's been a part of what we're doing," he said in a story for the Jets' website, published Wednesday. "I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He's fully engaged. To be one of the top special team players in this league he's done a really good job of helping the other guys we have." Glenn added that he spoke with Boyd over the phone, but the two did not discuss when he might be able to get back on the field. "That's something I don't think needed to be talked about at that time," he said. "It was more or less: 'Man, how are you doing? How's your family doing?' And there's a ton of time to talk about football after this incident." Broncos RB Tyler Badie Carried off Field on a Stabilizer and Stretcher Defensive lineman Harrison Phillips, who also played with Boyd on the 2022 Minnesota Vikings, said that the team is "grateful" that Boyd is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. "I'll say something about KB, though ... just such an energetic, such a positive person," he told NewYorkJets.com on Monday, November 17. "And that year in '22 we spent together, he was someone - as I was a new person [after four seasons with Buffalo] - who welcomed me with open arms, because he's just so positive, wanting to know everybody, playing games, joking all the time. And even my time here with him, he's still got that upbeat positivity, even while being on IR [injured reserve]. And I can't wait to see a smile on his face again." The Jets are just 2-8 on the season, but those two wins have come in the team's last three games. New York takes the field next on Sunday, November 23, when they visit the Baltimore Ravens.
