Olivia Munn recently connected with a breast cancer patient who was moved by her story. Munn, 45, has been candid about her breast cancer journey since revealing in an Instagram post on March, 13, 2024, that she had been diagnosed. "I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey," she captioned the post in part. "It's because of your commitment to awareness that many women have been screened," Jenna Bush Hager announced on the Wednesday, November 19, episode of Today With Jenna and Friends. Michaela Del Barrio is one of the women that have been touched by Munn's openness, and the Today show tracked her down to speak about her experience. Olivia Munn Reflects on Her 'New Normal' Amid Breast Cancer Journey The working mom of two detailed in a video shown on the program how, at 35, after having her second child, she was prompted by "knowing I wanted to be here for my kids for a long time" - and her family history of breast cancer - to schedule a mammogram and visit the High Risk Breast Clinic at her doctor's suggestion. Del Barrio admitted that she didn't take her doctor's suggestions right away because of other things happening at that time, but after coming across Munn's story, "it made me think back to my list," and the following day she called to set up an appointment. After conducting a risk assessment and undergoing an MRI, doctors revealed to Del Barrio that they found "two suspicious masses," she said. Doctors were able to catch it early and Del Barrio underwent surgery and chemotherapy. An article was written about her experience, which led to Munn reaching out to her via email. "I received the craziest email from Olivia Munn, which I thought was spam at first," Del Barrio said in the video. "It was so kind and so warm, and she just said, 'I want to let you know that there are so many women like you, like me, who will support you. Will envelop you in this warmth and kindness.'" Olivia Munn Says Motherhood Made Breast Cancer Journey 'More Terrifying' Del Barrio expressed in the video how much she would like to thank Munn, whose story pushed her to schedule the appointment that she needed. Jenna & Friends/TODAY Bush Hager, 43, then announced that Del Barrio had flown from Chicago to surprise Munn by appearing on the show and they embraced in a sweet hug. Del Barrio shared that she was two months into her endocrine therapy. Munn followed up with an encouraging quote from Kate Middleton. "It was great to hear her say it, because I wasn't able to put [it in] words myself," Munn said. "I've been talking so much about breast cancer. The first part is hard, but a lot of people don't talk about how hard the second part is. I actually didn't know how to articulate it, but then I heard her say recently that 'Oh, it's hard, but this other part is really tough.' The part after the surgeries and stuff like that. It really made me feel so comforted that someone in her position was talking about it." Munn, who married comedian John Mulaney in 2024, said that he often sends her articles of people sharing how Munn has impacted them and led them to get screened for breast cancer. Mulaney, 43, sent Munn Del Barrio's story and she was so moved that she had to get in touch. "He's always like, 'I'm so proud of you,' 'You're doing great. Keep at it,'" Munn said.
