Steve Granitz / Getty Images Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show this week, Oliver joined Drew, Valerie Bertinelli, and Ross Matthews to discuss a viral story about a bride whose family members canceled their RSVPs to her wedding after learning that she was keeping it child-free. While reacting to the story, Oliver shared a "relatable" anecdote about his and Erin's "very small" wedding in Mexico. Jean Baptiste Lacroix / Getty Images "I am a pretty private person, and my wife is from the East Coast, and she had all of her high school girlfriends and her college girlfriends who were coming," he said. "I said to her, 'That's fine, but their husbands - I don't want them at my wedding.'" @thedrewbarrymoreshow / Via tiktok.com "I didn't want to be introduced to someone at my own wedding when I am sort of a private person," Oliver explained. @thedrewbarrymoreshow / Via tiktok.com Revealing Erinn's response, Oliver said, "She's like, 'What?!'" before continuing, "I'm like, 'Yeah, I don't know how to do this, but you're going to have to tell your girlfriends that the husbands can't come to the wedding.' It was a whole thing." @thedrewbarrymoreshow / Via tiktok.com Oliver then revealed that the husbands still joined their wives in Mexico, but "didn't come to any of the wedding festivities." Several internet users have since suggested that Oliver's "no husbands" rule was "strange" and "rude." "That's really rude to not invite the husbands. Creepy actually," one Instagram comment read, while someone else said on TikTok, "Not allowing your guests to have a plus one is awful." Amy Sussman / Getty Images "Why not have a cocktail party before the festivities start so you can meet the spouses of your wife's good friends!?!?" another user questioned. "He's strange, whoever he is. So rude," one user wrote."I think it's strange to not invite the spouse," someone agreed, while one more user said, "I wouldn't attend a wedding my spouse wasn't invited to!" On the other hand, many people sided with Oliver. "It's a wedding, not a family reunion. Plan a different event for the families at a different time & location, something family-oriented like a beach or lake day. Let the bride and groom have THEIR day!" one person wrote. Kevin Mazur / Getty Images "I mean.... who wants strangers at their wedding?!? I totally get it Oliver," said another, while one more person quipped, "a husband-free wedding sounds PERFECT."
