Unexpected star Myrka Cantu is opening up about a scary accident that left her infant son injured. "Now, I'm always one that says do what is easiest for you and for your kids, and I've always defended cosleep if it's for your sanity, and what is easier for you, if it's done safely," Cantu shared via Instagram on Saturday, November 15, revealing that her 10-month-old son, Alejandro, was rushed to the hospital after he fell off a bed while the pair were bedsharing. "I definitely should have taken the fact that [my son is] crawling into consideration when cosleeping," the former TLC reality star continued. "I woke up in the middle of the night. I don't know if he started playing or if he was sleep-crawling, and he straight up fell off the bed." (Cosleeping refers to a sleeping arrangement in which an infant sleeps in close proximity to a parent, i.e. room-sharing, while bedsharing describes an instance in which a parent sleeps on the same surface as their infant.) Cantu - who is expecting her fourth baby with husband Juan Castillo in 2026 - said she took her son to the ER before being transferred to a children's hospital. "He did fracture his skull, and he got a brain bleed," Cantu shared in an Instagram video from a hospital room. "I'm not gonna lie to y'all and tell y'all that I'm perfectly fine because I've been crying like there's absolutely no tomorrow. I'm running on no sleep, literally been awake for a full 48 hours at this point." On a positive note, the reality star said doctors were optimistic Alejandro could be released in the coming days. She also said her son was doing 'extremely well." "It's not something that surgery can fix," she claimed on Saturday. "We haven't even been giving him pain medication. They've just been giving him fluids and checking his vitals." View this post on Instagram Us Weekly has reached out to Cantu for additional comment. Fans met Cantu when she appeared on TLC's reality show Unexpected in 2020. The unscripted series takes a raw look at teenage pregnancies and the effects on teen parents and their families. Although she has been away from reality TV for nearly five years, Cantu explained why she wanted to share her story - even if mommy shamers would come after her online. 'Teen Mom' OG Kids: How They've Grown Over the Years "I really contemplated filming this but shi just too real. Bring on the mom shaming at this point I deserve it," she wrote via Instagram. "He's the first one I have ever coslept with as a baby and I promise you he's the last. As safe as I was, nothing could have prevented him falling off while we were asleep , other than him sleeping in his own crib ALONE. My baby is so strong I'm so inspired by him and I know we will look back at this teaching moment and be grateful for it ONE DAY. For now it's FML and give me a FKN break." Despite her fears of being shamed, Cantu appeared to get some support from her followers. "Accidents really happen 😭❤️," one fan wrote in the comments section. Another follower added, "One thing about parenting, is that baby is gonna fall off that damn bed. It's happened to me, it's happened to so many moms I know. And no one talks about the guilt that comes with that."
