The Landman actor and Maleficent star-who were married from 2000 to 2003-have maintained a close relationship despite their split, as Thornton recently shared. "Angelina and I had a great time together," the 70-year-old told Rolling Stone in an interview published Nov. 17. "That was one of the greatest times of my life. She and I are still very, very close friends." As the Oscar winner explained, he and Jolie, 50, had "a really civilized breakup" with their split coming as a result of differing lifestyles. And looking back on their marriage now, Thornton-who has been married six times-admits the frenzy surrounding it "was pretty weird." "When we met, I was the more famous one," he said. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other's blood, and this kind of stuff."Blue/ABACA/ShutterstockAnd while things didn't work out with Jolie, Thornton-who shares daughter Amanda, 46, with ex Melissa Lee Gatlin, sons William, 32, and Harry, 30, with ex-wife Pietra Dawn Cherniak, as well as daughter Bella, 20, with wife of 12 years Connie Angland-joked that he told people, "At least I was trying." As for Jolie, the Eternals actress has echoed Thornton's statements about their relationship and how much they still care about each other. "I still love him dearly and think the world of him," she told Entertainment Weekly in 2008, "and I'm proud to have been his wife for a time." She added, "I don't believe in regrets. It's a dangerous habit to get into-it makes you pause in your life if you start thinking back and questioning yourself." Thornton and Jolie aren't the only former couple who has remained friendly after splitting up. Keep reading for a look at more.
