Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase denied spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey during their teams' game on Sunday, November 16, but video appears to show otherwise. Chase, 25, and Ramsey, 31, had exchanged words throughout the game before the two got into a heated confrontation with just over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Video shows the two speaking helmet-to-helmet when something appears to fly out of Chase's mouth. A second later, Ramsey hits Chase's face mask before throwing a punch. Officials and other players immediately stepped in to separate the two, and Ramsey was ejected from the game. "He spit on me," Ramsey told the media after the game. "I don't give a f*** about football after that, respectfully. I'm always going to be all for trash-talking, s***-talking, things like that. I actually enjoy that part of the game. I think that people know that. We were talking s***, which I'm cool with. And then as soon as he spit, it was f*** that." Chase, for his part, denied it, saying, "I never opened my mouth to that guy. I didn't spit on nobody." Jason Kelce Has Risque Reaction to NFL Star Jalen Carter's Spitting Act The four-time Pro Bowler added that he believed Ramsey punched him because of something he said. "We've been going back and forth the whole time," Chase explained. "So, I'm sure something got under his skin." ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported after the game that the league is investigating the incident and that a decision is expected on Monday, November 17. Chase could face a suspension if the NFL determines he did, in fact, spit on his opponent. "I'm sure the NFL, they'll do their due diligence," Ramsey said. "They've got 100 cameras out there. They can investigate. They can see everything. ... They should be able to pull it up and see that he spit, and it's whatever after that, to be honest. I was still a little too nice if I'm keeping it honest with you." NFL Announces Punishment for Jalen Carter Spitting on Cowboys' Dak Prescott Referee Bill Vinovich told the game's pool reporter that he did not witness Chase spitting in real time. "We did not see anything that rose to that level at all," he said. "There was a scuffle between the two," added Vinovich, 64. "We had been dealing with it all day and then it kind of escalated. They were both grabbing each other's face masks." Chase and Ramsey were each flagged with unsportsmanlike conduct penalties one play before. "We had just talked to the refs," Ramsey said. "I ain't going to do something again to get myself kicked out of the game. The refs had just told us a play before. If you just use your common sense, you'll know, 'Hey, he wasn't just doing it again for no reason.' You know what I mean?" The Steelers won the game, 34-12, to remain atop the AFC North. Cincinnati's next game is on Sunday, November 23, against the New England Patriots, who are tied for the best record in the NFL. If Chase, one of the best players in the league at his position, is suspended for that showdown, the Bengals' uphill battle against New England will become much tougher.
