The Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman-starring series that became a breakout hit for Netflix this summer has started production on season two. Filming in the U.S., the eight-episode season will release exclusively as a Netflix branded series in nearly all countries Netflix is available. The streamer also confirmed three more returning stars: Karen Rodriguez, who played Deputy Salazar, and Hunter Emery, who played Deputy Flynn, are back as series regulars, while guest star Branton Box will return as Sheriff Johnny. The streamer shared a photo (below) on set of the chairs of three characters: Margo, played by Akerman, Sophie, played by Snow - and Akerman's wig. Akerman, who is blonde, and her noticeable brown wigs went viral after season one. Akerman revealed that after her wig fitting, the hair they picked looked more "Dallas or Dynasty," which ushered in several other wigs having to be used throughout the season. She had said they might try to color her hair instead of using a wig for season two - so it seems they've changed their mind. (The wig on display does look more blonde, however.) Hold on to your wigs. The Hunting Wives Season 2 is OFFICIALLY in production! pic.twitter.com/sI8EKaynFg- Netflix (@netflix) November 17, 2025 The Hunting Wives from Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment landed at Netflix after first being developed as a Starz series. The series about upper class Texan women who like to shoot guns, drink and hit the party circuit - and who kill people - was the most-viewed streaming series in the U.S. one month after its July 21 release. The bingey drama from creator Rebecca Cutter also stars Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit and George Ferrier in season two. Additional cast will be announced at a later date. In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Snow said they were also trying to dream up ways to bring back Katie Lowes, whose character died in season one. The first season ended on a major cliffhanger when (spoiler!) Sophie (Akerman), while drinking and driving, crashed her car into Margo's (Akerman) brother, potentially adding another fatal drunken driving accident to her rap sheet and majorly jeopardizing both her own family's future, as well as her steamy love affair with Margo. Here's the season two logline: "At the start of season two, Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?" In that same conversation with THR about season two, Snow said she visited the writers room to share some of her suggestions for Sophie's next steps, and teased, "We want to see more Margo and Sophie because they really are so problematic, and they are the reason this show is crazy. ... I know you will see more of them. The decisions [Sophie] makes at the end are a reflection of how she is a dangerous person. Now in season two, you're going to see the type of person she really is. Her decisions were [made from the perspective] of someone who is a lovestruck teenager falling in love for the first time. A lot of people can hopefully relate to that - maybe not to her decisions, but [in that situation] you're not thinking clearly, and obviously you're going for the person you love." When speaking to THR about plotting the second season, Cutter also promised more Sophie and Margo, and that she wouldn't shy away from the show's erotic sex scenes or hot-button commentary. "I've heard some people say that the show is part of this new mandate to make red-state content, and that wasn't what it was. I mean, it was for horny middle-aged women," Cutter said of her "anti-prestige" addictive series. "It got to come into Netflix feeling really different than any other show on Netflix." Hunting Wives is based on the bestselling novel by May Cobb. Cutter is creator/showrunner/writer/EP and executive producers are Erwin Stoff for 3 Arts Entertainment and Cobb.
