NBC / Rosalind O'Connor/NBC via Getty Images The Running Man star was originally set to host for the release of Top Gun: Maverick, but the film was delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and his hosting opportunity was lost. "Without Top Gun," Glen said, quoting SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels, "no one will know who the eff you are." CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / AFP via Getty Images On Nov. 17, Glen finally made his SNL debut, hosting Episode 6 of Season 51 with Olivia Dean as the musical guest, and his monologue was surprisingly four years in the making. NBC / Rosalind O'Connor/NBC via Getty Images During his monologue last night, Glen shared that when he received the call about hosting back then, his family celebrated by taking a selfie with a UPS driver named Mitch, who was delivering a package at the time. They told him to watch the SNL Christmas episode, but it never happened. NBC "So I didn't end up hosting, which means for four years, this UPS driver was just going around saying 'Glen Powell is a liar,'" Glen said. NBC However, Glen's sisters, Leslie and Lauren, actually tracked down Mitch and flew him out to New York City to watch him finally host live. "He thought it was a scam, but he still came," Glen said. "He's in the audience tonight. Let's give it up for Mitch the UPS driver!" NBC To celebrate the reunion, Glen and Mitch took another selfie, but this time on the actual SNL stage. "But if I have learned anything, it's that the best things in life don't happen overnight, and no one knows that better than UPS." NBC The heartwarming moment has since gone viral, and everybody is saying the same things about Glen's epic SNL monologue, which took four years to successfully execute: @newromantics02 / Via x.com @nbcsnl / Via instagram.com @JanetStuff / Via x.com @nbcsnl / Via instagram.com @JosephLauzon5 / Via x.com @lynzeelh / Via x.com NBC / youtu.be NBC / youtu.be @nbcsnl / Via instagram.com @ironbuckleyy / Via x.com Watch Glen's full monologue here: View this video on YouTube NBC / youtube.com
