A resurfaced excerpt from Tom Bower's 2022 book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, reveals how King Charles III and Queen Camilla really felt about Meghan Markle. Charles, 77, felt "bewilderment" toward Meghan, 44, when she and Prince Harry took a trip to the Castle of Mey in Scotland in 2018 with the rest of the royal family. Charles "never really understood her or what she wanted," Bower alleged in his book. Camilla, meanwhile, was always "apprehensive about Harry's future," the book claimed. Bower noted that Camilla, 78, has "nothing in common" with Meghan and allegedly questioned the former Suits star's "coquettish smiles and tactile performance." Camilla allegedly didn't think that Meghan would "sacrifice her independence to serve silently as a team-player." Meghan Markle and King Charles III's Ups and Downs Through the Years Elsewhere in Bower's book, he claimed that Charles "berated" Harry and Meghan over her father Thomas Markle' public appearances at the time. The Duke of Sussex wrote that Meghan and Charles were "always strong," but things got "stronger during that weekend" at the Castle of Mey. Harry noted that he and Meghan "talked a bit" with his father "about the stress we'd been under," but there were "good vibes." Harry and Meghan have been at odds with the royal family since stepping back as senior members in 2020 and relocating to America. This year, however, has marked a turning point for Harry and his father. The two had a closed-door meeting in September, which opened the previously severed line of communication between them. (Harry and Charles' meeting was the first time the father-son duo had seen each other in nearly two years.) "They were catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health," the same insider shared. "There were hugs and tears at the meeting." Harry shares two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with Meghan. Charles has been suffering with an undisclosed type of cancer since February 2024. "They shared a long hug when they first saw each other," the source added. "Harry started crying and it was very emotional for both of them. They really missed each other." The meeting took place in September because Harry was in London at the time. The insider explained to Us that there was " a short window of time" in which they could both meet. "They met at Clarence House because it's the King's home," the source continued. "And it was chosen because it was an intimate, less formal atmosphere compared to Buckingham Palace. They wanted an intimate setting to ease back into their personal connection without any pressure."
