Cal State Fullerton soccer player Lauren Turner is dead at age 19 nearly, six weeks after she and a teammate were hit by a box truck while riding electric scooters near campus. "Early this morning, our sweet Lauren fell asleep in the Lord," her family wrote on Friday, November 7 on a GoFundMe page launched to help cover her medical costs. "Our hearts are broken, and our family is forever changed. We will miss her beyond measure, yet we take great comfort in knowing she is now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." The accident happened on September 27 when Turner and teammate Ashlyn Gwynn were riding their scooters to a Titans men's soccer game. Responding officers found the two "in the roadway with significant, life-threatening injuries," according to a release from the Fullerton Police Department. Neither player was wearing a helmet and both were taken to a local trauma center in critical condition. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident. The investigation is ongoing and no charges against the driver have been filed, according to the Los Angeles Times. Tennis Star, 18, Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver 1 Month Before Graduation Gwynn, also a sophomore, spent one month in the ICU and is now recovering in a "step down" unit where she is receiving occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy, the Fullerton Observer reported. Gwynn's family called her recovery "nothing short of miraculous" in an update posted to Turner's GoFundMe page. Turner played in all 20 of Fullerton's games as a freshman and made eight starts in 10 games as a sophomore before the accident. A four-year varsity player at Beckman High School in Irvine, California, Turner was named team MVP as a junior. "As a dedicated soccer player, she was known for her encouragement, determination, and the way she lifted up those around her," her family continued. "Her teammates and coaches have shared countless stories of her positivity, humor, competitiveness, and leadership - reminders of the light she carried both on and off the field. "As her family, we always knew the goodness and light that shone within her, but to hear others speak of it affirms what a true blessing she was to everyone who knew her," they said. LSU Pole Vaulter Dillon Reidenauer, 18, Dies in Car Accident on Campus The Titans' 2025 season came to an end on November 6 with a 2-1 loss to Cal Poly in the Big West Championship semifinals. Turner's teammates released a statement of their own, which was posted to the Cal State Fullerton athletics website and the family's GoFundMe page. "Lauren was the funniest, most charismatic, loving teammate you could ever ask for," they wrote. "She was the first to celebrate other people's wins. She is the true definition of an amazing person. She always carried herself with compassion, kindness, and happiness. The impact she made on this program is immeasurable. She will be dearly missed by everyone but forever remembered by her Titan family. We love you Lauren, our #5 forever." The athletic department held a candlelight vigil in Turner's honor on Wednesday, November 12 at Titan Stadium, where the team plays its home games. "A beautiful young lady, a twin, 19 years of age," family friend Nick Kokkinos told ABC7 on Thursday, November 13. "She participated in our community, playing basketball, and other activities ... Sunday school, and ... tragedy struck."
