While Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have differing accounts about what went wrong in their whirlwind marriage, fellow Bachelor Nation alum Carly Waddell doesn't plan to follow in their footsteps. "Lots of you are asking what happened in my failed engagement. This is why I'm not saying anything - well one of the reasons," Waddell, 40, said in an Instagram Story video shared Tuesday, November 11. "Have you seen the Gerry and Theresa drama that's going on right now [and] the he-said-she-said from Bachelor Nation situation? It just looks so gross." Waddell confirmed last month that she ended her engagement to lawyer Todd Allen Tressler without elaborating on her decision. (Waddell was previously married to Evan Bass, whom she met on Bachelor in Paradise season 2, from 2017 to 2020.) "[On] both sides, somebody's talking about the other person, whatever. It's just not me," Waddell explained on Tuesday. "I mean, to be honest, I never really said anything bad about [my] ex before, so it's just not my style. I think it's icky." Golden Bachelor's Theresa Reacts to Gerry Feeling 'Trapped' Before Wedding She continued, "Everybody has their side of the story anyway. To me, it's just not a good look." Turner, 74, and Nist, 72, got engaged on the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor in 2023, tying the knot less than one year later. Turner and Nist ultimately announced their separation in April 2024 after three months of marriage. While Turner and Nist initially blamed their divorce on long distances, they have each veered from the high-road thanks to Turner's new memoir. "There were some perceptions that I wanted to put on the right track," Turner exclusively told Us Weekly in an October cover story about writing his My Golden Years book. "The question was constantly, 'Why are they getting divorced so quickly?' And I was, I believe, made out to be a villain." He continued, "Right before Theresa and I went on Good Morning America to announce that divorce, we agreed that we would protect each other, and I don't feel like that happened. I felt like I was taking the brunt of the situation. And I go, 'No, wait a minute, that's not right. It's 50/50.'" Golden Bachelor's Gerry and Theresa Divorce: Split Theories Explained In the book, Turner further claimed that Nist had a strategy to win The Golden Bachelor and that he felt "trapped" going into their wedding day. (Turner and Nist had both previously been married to their high school sweethearts, who died decades before Bachelor Nation spinoff premiered.) Nist, for her part, denied all of Turner's memoir claims. "It makes me very sad to think that he felt empty and trapped," she told Us in an October statement. "I wish he had said something and just ended it. But at least now I understand why he was so hurtful to me so many times. And I will say this. Those in glass houses should not throw stones. I do wish him all the best." Weeks later, Nist offered more insight into her side of the story during a November appearance on the "Dear Shandy" podcast. "All I want is peace and joy and good things in my life," she said earlier this month. "I have been extremely upset. Anytime I talk about anything that I read that he said about any interaction we had, I just go, 'That's not how it was." Revelations From Gerry Turner, Theresa Nist's Last Interview as a Couple Nist also alleged that Turner even once joked about killing her and hiding her body in a shed on his property. "He wasn't laughing. I said, 'Well, if this was his idea of a joke, that was pretty dark humor,'" she claimed. "I just felt like there was animosity in that statement that was underlying. Like, maybe if he could have gotten rid of me somehow. I don't think he would have killed me. No, I don't think that was true. It's not true, but it just spoke to an underlying feeling about me." Turner has not publicly addressed Nist's accusations. Us Weekly reached out for comment. As for Waddell, she noted in her October breakup statement that she was "very at peace" with her decision and moved her family - she shares two children with Bass - to a new town in Tennessee. "We did move out of Lebanon, honestly, to get away [and] get a fresh new start. We were also only there a few months," she said on Tuesday. "To be honest, I had already left that house that we moved into, like, three times before I actually left. So, [my kids, Bella and Charlie] did have to change schools. The first day changing schools was so hard, honestly, that was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. They were both, like, clinging to me. It was awful, terrible, but now they're doing so great." She concluded, "They love their new school [and] they are thriving. You know, kids are very resilient and honestly, they just want to be with me anyway."
