In The Hollywood Reporter's review of the film, Frank Scheck predicted its flourishment, writing, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie feels like a labor of love that should easily weather any nitpicking from purists. It should also prove a major cash cow for co-producers Nintendo, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures, with sequels and spin-offs virtually guaranteed." The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. Matthew Fogel penned the screenplay while Horvath and Jelenic directed.
