The company just announced that spinoff Dune: Prophecy has started production on a second season. Unlike the six-episode first season, HBO is giving the series more episodes for its sophomore run: Eight episodes instead of six. The bump is notable as, if anything, the trend in the streaming era is to either order the same or fewer episodes per season - especially on a show that has received mixed reviews from critics and viewers. The show is also adding Ashley Walters, who earned an Emmy nomination for his incredible turn playing the lead detective in Netflix's Adolescence. Also joining the cast is Tom Hollander of HBO's The White Lotus and Netflix's The Night Manager fame. Filming on the HBO and Legendary Television co-production is taking place in Hungary, Jordan and Spain with season one showrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker returning. There's no word yet on a premiere date. There's a slim chance of the series returning at end of 2026, but 2027 might be more likely. From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled order that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Returning class include Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten and Tessa Bonham Jones.
