Antonia Desplat had a scary encounter while filming the Johnny Depp-directed film, Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness. The French actress, 31, was robbed at home in Budapest during the movie's production, and recalled the incident exclusively to Us Weekly. "Riccardo [Scamarcio] cooked once for all of us at his house. I didn't because I got robbed, so I had to change my apartment," Desplat shared at the Los Angeles premiere of Modi on Tuesday, November 4. The star, who plays Beatrice Hastings in Depp's art drama, was home at the time of the robbery, but told Us she was not harmed during the theft. Al Pacino Through the Years: His Iconic Roles in 'The Godfather' and More "Everybody's okay. I was there. I saw the guy, and he took all my stuff," Desplat said, noting the authorities found "quite a bit" of her stolen possessions. She decided to move after the crime, but went immediately back to the movie set. "It's okay. [It] doesn't matter. I'm still gonna work. I mean, I worked that day," Desplat added. "Nothing happened. Nobody touched me, I'm good," she recalled to Us. "They just broke into the house and took all my stuff." Antonia Desplat and Johnny Depp Getty Images Despite the robbery, the actress said she was "grateful" to be part of the period drama that took Al Pacino 30 years to get made. Pacino, 85, who also stars in the movie, enlisted Depp, 62, to direct the picture, which focuses on a struggling bohemian artist (played by Riccardo Scamarcio) as he struggles with critics to find a home for his art pieces in the war-torn streets of Paris. Pacino was instrumental in convincing Depp to join the project, which marked their first major collaboration in nearly three decades. "I had to pinch myself quite a bit throughout the process," Desplat told Us about working with Depp and Pacino. Actor-Director Duos Who've Worked Together Over and Over Again "They are people I have admired my whole life. So to be able to be directed by one of the greatest actors of all time is for sure a highlight of my life right now," she explained, "and then, to get to hang with Al Pacino, which, I don't have scenes with him, but to be in the same movie as Al Pacino is definitely a pinch me moment." Modi also features Adolescence actor Stephen Graham and Emily in Paris star Bruno Gouery. Gouery, 50, discussed his admiration for Depp and Pacino on the red carpet, too. "It was a dream. You know, it's unbelievable for me. When I was a young actor, a child, I saw Al [and] I saw Johnny, thinking, 'Oh, I want to become one of them one day,' and to have the privilege, the opportunity, to be with them. It's, believe me, a dream," he shared with Us. 'Emily in Paris' Director Breaks Down Filming Challenges, Technical Secrets The actor also teased what's in store for his character in season 5 of Emily in Paris. "There is a lot of Luc," Gouery said. "I can tell you there is a lot of Italy, believe me, a lot of Italy. In this season, you will discover why I'm telling you that," he added, noting he preferred filming in Rome over Paris. While Emily in Paris returns to Netflix on December 18, Depp's Modi just scored a North American distribution deal last month. "I'm delighted to share this epic story with American audiences, offering them a glimpse into the exhilarating yet tragic tale of the brilliant Italian artist, Modigliani. Bringing Modi to life, alongside an extraordinary cast and crew, has been the greatest honor, and I hope that others feel that same magic we experienced when making this film," Depp told Deadline about the film in October. Modi first premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival and the Rome Film Festival in 2024.
