However, not everyone stuck around for all six seasons. The CW Her departure came as a surprise to many viewers, who were left scratching their heads and wondering what really happened behind the scenes. Well Upper East Siders, we finally have our answer. On a new episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, the Pretty Reckless singer opened up about why she decided to say goodbye to Jenny Humphrey, and it honestly makes a lot of sense. Eric Liebowitz/CW Network/Courtesy Everett Collection Momsen, who was just 13 years old when the Gossip Girl pilot was filmed, shared that the "sudden, intense" fame and attention she received threw her into an "identity crisis." "I'm going, 'That's not what I was wearing. That's not me. That's a character.' And I'm getting hate from things I did on the show that I have nothing to do with... That started to bother me, and that's where I started to realize I'm not good at being someone else's tool. I need to be my own person." Taylor explained that as she got older, she became far more interested in pursuing a music career with her band. John Shearer / Getty Images "I treated it very much like a job, a professional," she said of filming Gossip Girl. "I showed up, I did my job and then I went to the studio." "I knew I had to leave, but at the same time, leaving a career that is so prosperous was not easy," she continued. I have something else I want to do with my life, and it has nothing to do with this, and I can't be stuck here anymore.'" The actor eventually went to Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who agreed to write her out of the series. "I really have to credit them for doing that for me, because they did not have to," she said. "They wrote me out of the show so I could go on tour and be in a band." Frank Hoensch / Getty Images So, Jenny went off to live with her mother, and that was that. When asked how she shared the news with her castmates, Taylor admitted, "I kind of just Irish dipped." However, Momsen didn't quite say goodbye to Jenny Humphrey for good. She returned as a guest for the series finale, briefly appearing at Dan and Serena's wedding. The CW She also revealed that Connor Paolo, who played Eric, is still one of her best friends to this day: "Love that guy."
