But also, we heard THE MESSAGE."by Chelsea StewartBuzzFeed StaffFacebookPinterestLinkHot Topic🔥 Full coverage and conversation on Taylor Swift Kayla Nicole's Halloween costume may or may not have just thrown shade at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Steve Granitz / Getty Images As you're likely aware, Kayla previously dated Travis from 2017 to 2022. A year after they split, Travis famously began dating Taylor Swift, to whom he's now engaged. Xny / Getty Images Since then, Kayla has been candid about the harassment she has faced from "miserable" trolls - presumably Swifties - which has included unfair criticism for celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles' win against Travis's team at the 2025 Super Bowl. Carol Lee Rose / Getty Images Unfortunately, though, the drama has continued, with Taylor herself seemingly joining the discourse through pointed lyrics on her October album, The Life of the Showgirl. See our Taylor Swift Discussions Taylor appears to reference Kayla in the song "Opalite," while reflecting on Travis's past relationships. She sings, "You couldn't understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone," seemingly alluding to internet comments about how attached Kayla was to her phone during her relationship with Travis. Andre Dias Nobre / Getty Images A resurfaced video even showed Travis asking Kayla to "get off" her phone at one point, while another clip showed her saying that if she could get someone's "attention," she wouldn't have to "seek validation from a bunch of strangers on the internet," per People. Kayla appeared to respond to Taylor's lyrics at the time through a cryptic Instagram repost - and on Friday, she seemed to share another message through her Halloween costume. Carol Lee Rose / Getty Images This year, Kayla dressed up as Toni Braxton, recreating the singer's iconic fringe dress look from her "He Wasn't Man Enough" music video. She captioned the post, "She's an icon. She's a legend. She's @tonibraxton circa 2000. #Halloween25." @iamkaylanicole, LaFace But it's the lyrics that Kayla danced to that make the post seem even shadier. She shared a snippet of the part where Toni specifically calls out her ex's new woman, singing: "What are you thinking? / Did you know about us back then? / Do you know I dumped your husband, girlfriend? / I'm not thinking 'bout him / But you married him / Do you know I made him leave? / Do you know he begged to stay with me? / He wasn't man enough for me." Andrew Toth / Getty Images Yeah, people thought it was definitely shade. "The shade is real 😂," one fan commented. Another person said, "LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO SCREAM INTO THE MIC KAYLA." Stephanie Augello / Getty Images "The level of petty, slayage, and pure decimation needs to be studied," a third comment read in part, as another said, "Will the real showgirl step to the front!!!!!" Leon Bennett / Getty Images "This is too good!" one more shared. "But also, we heard THE MESSAGE." As always, BuzzFeed has reached out to Kayla's reps for comment.
