When I walked into The Taj Story, I genuinely wanted to give the film the benefit of doubt. I wanted to see if it would genuinely question history with rigour, nuance and academic curiosity. Instead, what I experienced was a film that very clearly has an agenda and isn't even subtle about it.The makers repeatedly insisted publicly that the film "is not religious" and is "based only on historical facts." But when a movie's own promotional poster shows the dome of the Taj Mahal lifting to reveal a Shiva idol, it becomes extremely difficult to believe the disclaimers.
