Maks Chmerkovskiy has spoken out after his controversial criticism of new Dancing With the Stars pro Jan Ravnik's choreography and mentorship. "First and foremost, I want to apologize to Jan for the way my words made you feel [and] for hurting your feelings," Chmerkovskiy, 45, said in a Thursday, October 30, TikTok video. "There's a lot more that I wanted to say. I would like the opportunity to do it over coffee, or any kind of time you have to spare." He continued, "I would love to meet, I would love to talk about this [and] bury the hatchet. Also, most importantly, I think you're going to walk away knowing [I] feel completely different and - dare I say - [we] might even be friends. To that point, I'm not not a friend regardless of what I say." Chmerkovskiy, who won DWTS season 18, went on wife Peta Murgatroyd's "Penthouse With Peta" podcast earlier this month to recap the most recent episodes. At one point, he argued that Ravnik, 30, wasn't equipped to become a pro dancer and lacked the adequate training to teach celebrity partner Jen Affleck to dance. A Timeline of Jan Ravnik's 'DWTS' Drama With Maks Chmerkovskiy "My personality, I will tell you 'I love you' and I will tell you how it is, let alone if I don't know you," Chmerkovskiy explained on Thursday. "My commentary on dance doesn't come with feelings and emotions. It just comes with [a] completely different range of reasoning, and I'm that guy." Ravnik has not publicly addressed Chmerkovskiy's critiques, though Ravnik has made it clear that he's not bothered by outside noise. Several of Ravnik's fans, however, have called out the former DWTS pro's remarks. Courtesy of Maksim Chmerkovskiy/TikTok "The part of Dancing With the Stars that I was never able to really wrestle with and dominate is the public perception and what people think about me," Chmerkovskiy said. "Fundamentally, I don't care - and I lead with that. Because I lead with that, I'm not fighting for anyone's votes. So, the platform where that's important, I'm not the guy." Chmerkovskiy also acknowledged that he made "incredible mistakes" with some of his past partners, often resulting in him losing his temper. "It's not like you're saying stuff I don't already know," he said, addressing the fan comments. "I'm very honest and very black and white. It may be late in the game, but when I realize something about myself, I realize ... because I finally understand that for myself." DWTS' Val Chmerkovskiy Reacts to Brother Maks' 'Hurtful' Comments About Jan He concluded, "Please don't come for me for how many times I won or lost and what that means or doesn't mean, [and participating on] Dancing With the Stars comes with that. Let's not defend someone by attacking someone else." Unrelated to Chmerkovskiy's critical comments, Ravnik and 26-year-old Affleck were voted off season 34 during the Tuesday, October 28, live broadcast. Afterward, Ravnik stressed to Us Weekly that he remains unbothered by Chmerkovskiy's brash remarks. Jenna Johnson Weighs In on Maks Chmerkovskiy's Criticism of Jan Ravnik "I mean, look, everyone has an opinion. Everyone has a right to have an opinion," Ravnik exclusively told Us. "Haters going to hate and whoever loves us, loves us. What am I going to do? You can't change their mind. Everyone can have opinions, either I respect or don't respect. If they want to stay relevant in that way, yeah, let them hate." Dancing With the Stars premieres on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
