King Charles III has officially started the "formal" process to remove the "style, titles and honors" of Prince Andrew as the fallout from his brother's ongoing sexual assault scandal continues. "Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence," reads a Buckingham Palace statement shared with Us Weekly on Thursday, October 30. "Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him." The statement added, "Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse." Andrew has continued to deny all allegations that tied him to Jeffrey Epstein, which first came to light in 2019 when the late Virginia Giuffre alleged that she had sexual relations with the former Duke of York in 2001 when she was underage. Giuffre died by suicide at age 41 this past April. Her memoir, Nobody's Girl, was released posthumously earlier this month. Within the book, Giuffre shared more details about the allegations against Andrew and Epstein. Days before the memoir was released, Andrew announced that he would be giving up his royal titles. Getty Images (2) "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family," read the October 17 statement obtained by Us. "I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life." The statement continued, "With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me." Questions have continued to rise over the past few weeks about Andrew's living situation. He took up residence at the Royal Lodge for 22 years rent-free as part of an agreement that would have kept him there until 2078. Us understands that Andrew has been given formal notice on Thursday to vacate Royal Lodge and surrender the lease. As for his move, that will take place as soon as possible.
