Ella Beatty (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans) will play Lizzie Borden in the series, which will recount the sensational allegations that Borden killed her father and stepmother with an axe. She was acquitted at trial. Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, The Dead Don't Hurt) are also set to star, playing Lizzie's stepmother, Abby Borden, and the family's maid Bridget Sullivan. Beatty had a recurring part in Capote vs. the Swans, which marked the TV debut for the daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening. Hall is in Murphy's upcoming FX series The Beauty, and Krieps will feature in season three of Monster, which stars Charlie Hunnam as serial killer Ed Gein. The Borden case became a media sensation in the late 19th century and has been the subject of a host of documentary and fictionalized productions, including a few in the past decade. Christina Ricci starred as Borden in a 2014 Lifetime movie, Lizzie Borden Took an Ax, and a follow-up miniseries a year later. Chloƫ Sevigny and Kristen Stewart played Borden and Sullivan in the 2018 film Lizzie. Murphy and Brennan created the Monster anthology for Netflix. Beatty's credits also include A24's film If I Had Legs I'd Kick You. She is repped by CAA and Entertaiment 360. Hall is repped by WME, Julian Belfrage Associates in the U.K. and Hansen Jacobson. Krieps is repped by CAA and United Agents in the U.K. Deadline first reported the news.
