However, other times, they miss the mark so hard, we honestly wish they'd stayed home. So recently, when Reddit user Classic-Carpet7609 asked about the most messed-up celeb Halloween costumes, people had plenty to say. Here are some of the most problematic and offensive costumes that celebrities somehow found acceptable to wear. We also used a couple of answers from when the same question was asked a few weeks before! 1. Heidi Klum always goes all out for her costumes, and 2008 was no exception. Except this time, she raised eyebrows for a very different reason: She went as the Hindu goddess Kali, who symbolizes death and time, along with doomsday, sexuality, and violence, along with maternal instincts and love. While depictions do show Kali with a severed head and necklace of skulls, cheapening the sacred figure as nothing more than a spooky display unsurprisingly felt massively disrespectful to Hindu people. Despite some calling for an apology, Klum never addressed the controversy. Joe Corrigan / Getty Images Klum told reporters that the idea came from her assistant after Klum and her then-husband, Seal, went to India. "She said, 'Why don't you do an Indian goddess? Like a scary Indian goddess?' And I said 'OK!'" Not a lot of thought went into that one, I guess? But a whole lot of effort certainly did. Arnold Jerocki / Getty Images 2. What's worse than an offensive Halloween costume, you ask? A couple's Halloween costume! In 2016, Hilary Duff and her then-boyfriend Jason Walsh went to an LA Halloween party as a pilgrim and a Native American. After many criticized the couple for perpetuating stereotypes, appropriating Native American culture, and trivializing the genocide of Native Americans in America, both Duff and Walsh took to social media to apologize. It was not properly thought through," Duff wrote on Twitter (now X). Walsh posted his apology on Instagram: "I meant no disrespect," he wrote. "I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America. In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended." Teigen later called it "the best costume I ever wore," though she expressed some awareness that it wasn't exactly PC. "I made him a cowboy and I was an Indian, so we were 'cowboys and Indians.' It was, to me, very cute, but now thinking back I'd never do it again. Bad idea, Chrissy, bad idea!" She told Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. In another couple's costume, back in 2015, actor Harry Hamlin and reality star Lisa Rinna, who are married, went to a Halloween party as Sid and Nancy. The photo attracted controversy in relation to Hamlin's shirt, which featured a swastika. Rinna posted an apology afterward on Instagram, writing, "If I hurt you, we were being authentic to the characters of Sid and Nancy for our Halloween costumes. It hurt and angered many of you and we are deeply sorry for that. That was never our intention. We did not mean to offend." It's true that the shirt was a reference to a shirt Sid wore, but it still demonstrates a colossal lapse in judgment. Amy Graves / Getty Images Suggested by u/Starrynight62 Sid and Nancy also feel like a dicey costume to wear to begin with. Sid Vicious was a punk rocker who played bass for the Sex Pistols; he then met a groupie named Nancy and began a turbulent, drug-fueled public relationship. Nancy was later stabbed to death in their hotel room, with Sid claiming he'd killed her (he later recanted and said he didn't remember what had happened). He was arrested for her murder, released on bail, and died from an overdose soon after. There has been speculation since that he did not murder her, but still. Going as the couple where one member potentially died from domestic violence at the hands of the other just feels in bad taste. Watal Asanuma/Shinko Music / Getty Images 5. Fellow Real Housewives star Luann de Lesseps also stirred up backlash when she donned a Diana Ross costume for an episode of The Real Housewives of New York, wearing a large afro and appearing to have darkened skin. De Lesseps later apologized on Watch What Happens Live, saying she was "horrified" and "never meant to hurt anybody's feelings." She continued, "I love Diana Ross and I tot
