Former NBA player and Duke basketball great Kyle Singler was charged with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in the presence of a child on Tuesday, October 28, after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend's head and shoved her to the ground. Singler, 37, was arrested on Thursday, October 23 after a 911 caller reported that Singler was chasing a woman outside a Whitefield, Oklahoma residence. (The former NBA player spent the final four seasons of his seven-year pro career with the Oklahoma City Thunder.) He was booked into the Haskell County Jail and later released on $6,000 bond, according to the Associated Press. "It looked like he palmed her face like he would a basketball and pushed her down, is what she had said," Mitch Dobbs of the Haskell County Sheriff's Office told KWTV. "The marks kind of matched a handprint and fingerprints on her left side of her face." NBA's Kevin Durant Pulls a Travis Kelce, Shoots His Shot With Host Kay Adams Dobbs added that Singler did not cooperate or give a statement to authorities and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. The alleged victim told authorities that she shares the child present with Singler. Singler's arrest comes just under a year after friends and former teammates grew concerned over a series of cryptic social media posts in which Singler said he feared for his life. "I need to make an announcement," he said in a video posted via Instagram last November. "Because I feel like my voice is getting silenced. Every day, s*** is being thrown my way." He continued, "I have been mistreated and abused, neglected, made into a mental example. I fear for my life every day. And people in my community make me look out as if I'm going to be someone that's going to be a problem and make things difficult for people when I'm only trying to be helpful." Creating chaos, creating narratives to have it be profitable for people." Singler attended Duke from 2007 to 2011, helping lead the Blue Devils to the 2010 National Championship, where he was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. The Detroit Pistons selected him 33rd overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, but he started his career in Spain. When he returned stateside, he was named to the NBA's All-Rookie Second Team in 2013. His former teammates and rivals voiced their support for him in the comments after his Instagram posts. Jay Cutler's Biggest Controversies Through the Years "I love you Kyle. Hit me whenever. Please," Utah Jazz star Kevin Love wrote. Love, 37, later added via X, "To everyone who has spent time with Kyle Singler and whose lives he has touched - please shower him with the love and support he needs+deserves. I would not be who I am today without him. I am forever indebted and love him. To the NBA family, Duke BB family, & South Medford community - let's show up for one of our own. 🙏🏻❤️ Andre Drummond, who played with Singler in Detroit, added via Instagram, "You aren't alone brother! I'm here for you."
