But what should have been a celebratory moment was quickly overshadowed by a flood of negative comments about her appearance in the music video. Axelle / Getty Images The song, "In The Dark," appears on the soundtrack to Season 2 of Nobody Wants This with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. The video includes close-up shots of Selena with her hair pulled away - but instead of focusing on the music, some people fixated on her face, speculating that she had cosmetic work done. Netflix / Via youtube.com I won't show the tweets here, but some of the most viral posts criticizing her look - like here, here, and here - racked up hundreds of thousands of likes on X. Many users claimed Selena went overboard with Botox and filler - however, it's worth noting that some of the most-shared images appear to be altered to exaggerate Selena's features. Netflix / Via youtube.com Selena previously attributed the changes to her appearance to her lupus medication, which can cause swelling and weight gain. While she hasn't addressed this latest round of commentary, her friend Paige Reed suggested that Selena may have been experiencing complications during the video shoot, commenting under her Instagram post, "The fact you couldn't walk and still did this shoot is insane." Luckily, people are coming to Selena's defense - including Grimes. Gilbert Carrasquillo / Getty Images In response to one particularly harsh post, Grimes took to X to react. "I've been in the internet for like 48 hours and despite minor benefits I might have to leave," she began. "Watched this Selena Gomez video, besides a few weird derp shots that ppl were able to clip and super misrepresent how she looks she looks extremely beautiful, is prob one of the most beautiful girls." Robyn Beck / Getty Images She wrote, "Imagine what it wud feel like if people talked about you this way. Try to imagine the mental fortitude she presumably has. How do we not utterly morally castigate someone who has a post like this blows up and chooses to keep the clout at the expense of everybodies mental health. How do u think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman?" Emma Mcintyre / Getty Images Grimes stressed it's not okay. "It shud not be ok to do high school level bullying," she stated. "Accounts shud be suspended for body shaming en masse. This is disturbing - in part because it's not even true if u actually watch this video." Karwai Tang / Getty Images She went on to call the discourse "unhealthy as fuck" - "not just for the Selena or the writer but everyone who sees this and engages with this level of dehumanization."I've been in the internet for like 48 hours and despite minor benefits I might have to leave. "totally agree," one person said. "selena's always been such an easy target for no reason, people project so much onto her. it's sad how the internet pushes even the most confident women to feel insecure." Warner Bros. Tv / Getty Images Another commented, "All this hate over her looking wrong in a video with a weird lighting, hairstyle while she looks gorgeous everyday. This world is way too harsh on female celebs and beauty standards are way too much. I don't think anyone should have to deal with this... The fact that this is happening is wrong." John Phillips / Getty Images One more added, "She's so fucking right here. Every time I open this app or tiktok comments there is viral comments on how a celebrity, usually a woman, looks different or has had surgery. The internet lost touch with reality because news flash over time and from one photo we all look different." What do you think of all of this? LMK in the comments.
