American soccer icon Landon Donovan looks like an entirely different person thanks to his brand new hairpiece. Donovan, 43, underwent the process of securing the hairpiece earlier this month - a journey he documented in detail on social media. "You have no idea the messages I've received," Donovan told The Athletic on Tuesday, October 21. "The messages and responses have been insane. I had no idea how many people deal with this and feel like I did. I could read you thousands of messages from people saying, 'Thank you so much, I've dealt with this.' Famous people, tons of people I know, [people I] don't know, who have just said 'Thank you for being honest about this. I've been struggling with this. I've been trying to figure out what to do and it's given me some motivation to just do it and go with it.'" He added, "It's been really powerful, honestly. And that was not at all in any way the intention. But it's been a really nice side effect." Every Celeb Hair Transformation of 2025: Emilie Kiser's Bob, More Donovan - who is tied for the most international goals scored by a male U.S. player in history - first started experiencing hair loss in his late teens. After years of experimenting with treatment methods, including multiple hair transplants, Donovan recruited the public's help in figuring out what to do next. "Hairline used to be here, and now this," Donovan said in a video posted via Instagram on September 29. "So, I tried everything. I tried the hair transplant treatment here, tried it back here. Nothing's worked. My options now are: Shave it bald, don't want to do that. Not an option for me. Leave it as is - not an option right now. Or I can try the last thing, which is a hair system, basically a wig, to see if that works. So that's what I'm thinking about doing." He continued, "But I need your help if I do it. What type of hairstyle should I get? I'm sure there'll be a lot of banter, funny answers. That's fine. But real answers, too. I need your help. Thanks." Just days later, Donovan underwent the procedure, which involved shaving the top of his head before the hairpiece could be applied. "I've been encouraged by your messages over the last few days," Donovan wrote via Instagram on October 3, sharing a video from the experience. "It's allowed me to be vulnerable and open up about my experience and process. Thank you for all your messages of support!" Stars Who Got Bangs in 2025: Zoe Kravitz, Kourtney Kardashian and More Donovan showed off his new look for the first time on October 7, where he further thanked his fans and followers for their "amazing" support. "You just hit a point where you don't give a s*** anymore," Donovan told The Athletic. "We all want to be liked. But there is a point where it's really peaceful where you don't give a s*** if someone doesn't like you or doesn't like something about you. For athletes we are so used to seeing and reading and hearing the negative, negative, negative. You become immune to it." He added, "My confidence in the last week when I'm just walking around is skyrocketing. I didn't realize how much I was aware of my hair, or lack of, because now I walk around and think, 'I'm kind of handsome. I'm not this ugly balding guy.' I feel like I'm an alright looking guy."
