Charlie Sheen once played a very expensive prank on ex-wife Denise Richards. "I wrote a check to Denise once for $1 million on her birthday, kind of as a joke, and she kept it not as a joke," Sheen, 60, revealed during the Tuesday, October 21, episode of Kevin Clancy's "KFC Radio" podcast. "And then, like, a month later, f***ing cashed it." Sheen couldn't recall if he and Richards, 54, were still married at the time, and Clancy, 41, couldn't decide whether it would be "funnier" if the pair had been divorced or together when the prank occurred. "Yeah, which makes it sting more?" Sheen asked. "But you know, if I'm on the other side of that, I'm probably cashing that check." The Two and a Half Men alum joked that Richards "could have let [him] know" in advance about her plan to cash the check. Denise Richards, Brooke Mueller's Marriage Revelations in Charlie Sheen Doc "'Hey, you sound like you're driving somewhere,'" he said, imagining the conversation that would happen between them. "'Yeah, to the bank, actually!' But I guess there's gratitude that there was enough money in that account for that check not to bounce." Clancy concluded, "You're doing pretty good if you can accidentally give people a million bucks." Sheen first met Richards on the set of Good Advice in 2000, and the pair began dating one year later after they reunited on Spin City. They got engaged in December 2001 and tied the knot in June 2002. The former spouses went on to welcome daughters Sami, 21, in March 2004 and Lola, 20, in June 2005. (Sheen also shares daughter Cassandra, 40, with ex Paula Profit and twin sons Bob and Max, 17, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller.) Denise Richards, Charlie Sheen Steve Granitz/WireImage Richards filed for divorce from Sheen in March 2005 while she was six months pregnant with Lola. Their messy divorce proceedings, which included a temporary restraining order after Sheen allegedly threatened Richards' life, were finalized in November 2006. Richards opened up about her marriage to Sheen and the effects that his substance abuse had on their relationship in his docuseries, a.k.a. Charlie Sheen, which was released on Netflix in September. "What he put me through, I don't know how I'm here to be honest," she admitted. "I think the only way through tragedy, what I was going through, was having a f***ing sense of humor because it was so bad ... I know the outside people would think we're crazy, making fun like, 'Remember when you took a baseball bat to all the TVs?' ... I think that if I wasn't a strong person, I would have gone down a very dark road just to deal with all of this s***." Denise Richards Compares Aaron Phypers to Ex-Husband Charlie Sheen in Court Breaking down in tears, Richards added, "The truth is I feel like my life with Charlie is three stages: It's the time I met him and married him, then my divorce and then the aftermath of it. I'm sorry to get so f***ing emotional about it because it was a lot, and I've had to f***ing hold it together." Despite their challenges through the years, Richards showed support for Sheen at the Hollywood premiere of his doc on September 4. "We both looked at each other on the red carpet and just laughed," Richards captioned photos from the event. "Charlie asked, 'Is it 2002?' and I said, 'It sure feels like it.' Who would have thought? What a journey we've had - so many ups and downs. But when life gets tough, deep down we both know we can count on each other. I'm so proud of him, and truly honored he asked me to be part of his story. Congrats, Charles ❤️."
